ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises, through the Huntley College of Agriculture Outreach, is seeking internal and external candidates, including College of Agriculture staff, graduate, and alumni for part-time positions assisting with the care of barn animals and supporting operations at the Big Red Barn during the Los Angeles County Fair. Work schedules will be flexible based on operational needs and may include evenings and weekends.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

  • Event logistics: ensuring public areas are clean, well lit, and operational for visitors at all times.
  • Develop and manage work schedules for student employees and volunteers to ensure adequate coverage for day-to-day operations as well as events.
  • Supervise, support, and provide guidance to student employees and volunteers.
  • Manage inventory and supplies needed for public facing events.
  • Liaise with visitors to ensure guest experiences meet expectations and any issues are resolved.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for student staff, addressing any issues promptly and escalating when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with CPP Foundation policies and regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to a regular work schedule (weekends and evenings may be required).
  • Will perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience feeding and caring for cattle, sheep, goats, swine.
  • Self-motivated and able to follow directions.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience working at Cal Poly Pomona, CPP Enterprises, or ASI.
  • Experience working, volunteering or teaching at the animal units on campus.
  • Familiar with the policies and procedures of Cal Poly Pomona and the CPP Foundation Enterprise.
  • Background in working at festivals/county fairs or community outreach programs.
  • Experience managing row or tree crops is desired.

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Enterprises offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Enterprises offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Enterprises also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Enterprises and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Enterprises administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Enterprises contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
