Job description

We are looking for a talented Field Service Power Generation Technician/Mechanic to join our Distribution Business in Hodgkins, IL. 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Completing repair activities on generators or components 
  • Engaging with customers in a courteous and professional manner
  • Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
  • Maintain detailed records of service
  • Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
  • Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
  • Maintain own tools

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate-level troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on diesel and gas generator sets, transfer switches, and related power generation equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and equipment inspections while accurately completing service documentation and reporting.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues with limited supervision and provide occasional support or guidance to Level 1 technicians.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience working with power generation equipment, diesel engines, or industrial electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software, multimeters, and other standard electrical/mechanical testing tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

  • Technical school training or certification in diesel technology, electrical systems, or power generation.
  • Familiarity with ATS systems, paralleling applications, or advanced generator control systems (e.g., PowerCommand, Deep Sea, ASCO).

Additional

  • A current valid license is required for this roll
  • Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
  • This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
  • A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
  • Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Broad mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance abilities.
  • High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
  • Capable of electrical repair and maintenance with minimal supervision - hands on exposure to working on power generation products.
  • Primarily engaged in preventative maintenance or basic repairs/diagnostics on generators.
  • Basic Diesel Engine experience.
  • Requires direct supervision and review of workmanship quality.

Compensation and Benefits Base:Salary rate commensurate with experience. Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution
Current relevant electrical certification
Locally valid driving permit
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Minimal level of workshop related experience required.
Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
High Voltage/ Low Voltage experience
