Job description

About the Position

Cooper Hart Leggiero & Whitehead PLLC is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to join our asbestos practice as a Settlement & Client Resolution Specialist.

This role is focused on guiding settlements through the final stages after approval. The Settlement & Client Resolution Specialist works closely with attorneys, clients, family members, co-counsel, government agencies, healthcare providers, and internal team members to help satisfy settlement requirements, resolve outstanding issues, and move matters toward final distribution.

This is a legal support and client coordination position—not an accounting or finance role. While the position involves settlement funds, liens, reimbursement documentation, and payment-related follow-up, the primary focus is organization, communication, document review, issue tracking, and client service.

Prior experience in plaintiff litigation, personal injury, asbestos bankruptcy trust claims, settlement administration, healthcare administration, insurance claims, or legal support is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates strong organizational skills, good judgment, initiative, and a desire to learn.

Work Arrangement & Location Note: This position is on-site at our office in The Woodlands, Texas. Candidates must be fully committed to working in-office Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities

On any given day, you may be speaking with a client, tracking outstanding documentation, coordinating with Medicare or Medicaid, reviewing settlement requirements, following up with third parties, or helping resolve issues that could delay distribution of settlement funds. Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, process, and track settlement-related documentation, releases, correspondence, and client packets.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, family members, and client representatives regarding settlement status, documentation requirements, payment timelines, and case-related questions.
  • Coordinate settlement distributions and related documentation, including required approvals, releases, and conditions that must be satisfied before funds are disbursed.
  • Communicate with government agencies, lien-resolution vendors, co-counsel, third-party administrators, outside attorneys, healthcare providers, and other third parties.
  • Coordinate Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, subrogation, and other reimbursement matters associated with client settlements.
  • Research reimbursement and reporting requirements; review documentation, medical information, and reimbursement claims to identify issues requiring further review.
  • Assist in resolving reimbursement-related disputes, discrepancies, and outstanding documentation issues.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records, detailed tracking logs, and internal case-management updates.
  • Monitor outstanding items, follow up consistently, and keep matters moving through completion.
  • Provide compassionate, professional support to clients and families throughout the settlement process.

What We Are Looking For

  • Highly organized: Able to manage numerous active matters, deadlines, and follow-up tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong follow-through: Takes ownership of assignments and follows matters through to completion without requiring constant supervision.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Enjoys researching issues, gathering information, and identifying practical solutions.
  • Professional communicator: Comfortable communicating with clients, family members, attorneys, government agencies, healthcare providers, and third parties.
  • Adaptable learner: Able to learn specialized legal, medical, and government reimbursement processes and apply them consistently.
  • Client-focused: Approaches sensitive situations with professionalism, patience, and compassion.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in legal support, legal administration, case management, settlement administration, healthcare administration, insurance support, or a related administrative role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working directly with clients or external agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on-site in The Woodlands, Texas.

Preferred

  • Experience in plaintiff personal injury, mass tort, asbestos, or asbestos bankruptcy trust claims.
  • Experience reviewing medical records, insurance documentation, government correspondence, or other complex records requiring careful analysis and follow-through.
  • Experience communicating directly with clients, government agencies, healthcare providers, insurance carriers, or other third parties regarding documentation, claims, or case-related matters.
  • Experience using case management software, document management systems, or detailed tracking spreadsheets to manage active matters.

Why Join CHLW?

  • You will play an important role in helping clients and families navigate the final stages of the settlement process and receive compensation that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.
  • This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized knowledge in asbestos claims, settlement administration, client resolution, and government reimbursement matters while building a long-term career with an established firm.
  • You will join a supportive, team-oriented environment that values initiative, problem-solving, professionalism, and exceptional client service.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly compensation with expected annual earnings of approximately $38,000-$42,000, plus an approximate $4,000 year-end bonus based on firm and individual performance.
  • Robust PPO medical insurance with 100% of the employee premium paid by the firm.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Hands-on training and professional development opportunities.
  • Career opportunity with an established and respected firm.
