About the Part-Time Building Custodian Role:


BRIC seeks a reliable and detail-oriented part-time Custodian to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-kept environment across our facilities. This role is essential to the daily operations of BRIC, supporting staff, artists, audiences, and community members by ensuring that our spaces are clean, functional, and ready for use.

The Custodian reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Operations, Production, and Facilities teams to support both day-to-day building needs and special events.


What Youll Do in the Role:


The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of BRICs spaces. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean and maintain all building areas, including floors, furniture, restrooms, windows, galleries, performance spaces, and common areas
  • Ensure proper care and cleanliness standards in fine art gallery spaces, following any specific handling or environmental guidelines
  • Sweep, shovel, and wash outdoor perimeters to maintain safe and accessible entryways
  • Empty trash and recycling throughout the building and prepare materials for NYC Sanitation collection
  • Monitor and restock custodial and restroom supplies as needed
  • Set up, break down, and reset furniture and equipment for events, rehearsals, and programs
  • Provide custodial support during events, including real-time cleaning and quick response to spills or maintenance needs
  • Move furniture, equipment, and materials as requested by the Operations or Production teams
  • Identify and report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or supply needs in a timely manner
  • Support general building operations as assigned by the Operations Manager

Experience & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 3 years of custodial, facilities, or related experience
  • Experience working in arts, cultural, or public-facing spaces is a plus
  • Ability to follow cleaning protocols and safety procedures with consistency and care

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours at a time)
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn, and reach
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Comfort working in environments with dust, cleaning agents, and varying odors

  • Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $17/hr.
