Job Summary
92NY School Engagement in the Arts brings arts residencies, performances, and learning experiences to thousands of K-12 students and educators across New York City each year.
We are seeking experienced visual arts educators to lead Visual Arts residencies in NYC public schools. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, digital art, and other hands-on artistic experiences, students build creativity, artistic skills, confidence, critical thinking, and self-expression.
This role includes developing lesson plans and facilitating visual arts residencies that respond to the needs and interests of students while supporting school and program goals. Candidates should be comfortable adapting instruction for students with a wide range of learning needs in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff.
Assignments may take place in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan, with priority given to candidates available to teach in Queens and Brooklyn.
Job Responsibilities Include
  • Plan and lead weekly Visual Arts residency sessions in NYC public schools.
  • Design and facilitate grade-appropriate visual arts lessons that foster creativity, artistic skill development, critical thinking, and self-expression.
  • Teach a variety of visual arts techniques and media, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and digital art, as appropriate to the residency.
  • Develop lesson plans and materials aligned with residency goals and student learning needs.
  • Adapt instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Prepare students for classroom exhibitions, showcases, or other culminating experiences when applicable.
  • Participate in required trainings, planning meetings, and professional development.
  • Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school partners.
  • Arrive prepared for each residency and manage art materials, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Complete required program documentation by established deadlines, including attendance records, photos, student reflections, or other materials requested by 92NY.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field required.
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching visual arts in NYC public schools, museums, community arts organizations, or comparable educational settings.
  • Experience working in Title I schools.
  • Strong foundation in visual arts education across a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, mixed media, digital art, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing and facilitating engaging visual arts lessons and residencies for elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, student-centered visual arts lessons while remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners preferred.

Work Environment & Requirements
