Personal Chief of Staff

Los Angeles, CA

Job description

Personal Chief of Staff

Confidential Search | Los Angeles, CA & Topanga Canyon area (with occasional travel as needed)

About the Role

This is a rare and distinctive opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of intellect, precision, and human connection.

We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a visionary leader -- an educator, philanthropist, and lifelong champion of music and the arts whose work spans music, learning, and social impact. He is deeply thoughtful, highly particular, and genuinely committed to the people who work closely with him.

This role is not a traditional executive assistant position. It is something more expansive: a Personal Chief of Staff who can manage the full complexity of a rich and dynamic life, while serving as a trusted and emotionally intelligent presence in the day-to-day.

The right person will bring structure with flexibility to complex situations, clarity to movement, and warmth to every interaction. They will become an indispensable partner to someone whose life and work are both meaningful and demanding.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will span personal logistics, relationship management, and strategic support. No two days will look exactly the same.

Core areas of focus include:

  • Managing calendars, travel arrangements, and scheduling across multiple properties and time zones
  • Transporting and supporting a variety of appointments including medical, shopping, and more.
  • Supporting indoor and outdoor projects of homeowner across three locations (properties)
  • Coordinating with a network of personal and professional contacts, collaborators, and staff across the arts, education, and philanthropic sectors, among others
  • Anticipating needs before they are expressed and acting with quiet confidence and reliable competence
  • Supporting communication, correspondence, and follow-through on a wide range of personal and professional matters with the utmost confidentiality
  • Maintaining meticulous attention to detail across all aspects of daily life — preferences, protocols, and priorities
  • Navigating changing plans and evolving priorities with flexibility and calm
  • Building a deep working relationship based on trust, honesty, and mutual respect over time

Who You Are

This role requires a very specific kind of person. We are not looking for someone who simply executes tasks. We are looking for someone who thinks deeply, acts with care, and builds genuine relationships.

You bring:

  • Exceptional organizational instincts and an almost compulsive attention to detail
  • High emotional intelligence and the self-awareness to manage your own projections and reactions
  • The maturity to handle confidential information with complete discretion — always
  • An intellectual curiosity that makes you genuinely interested in the world around you
  • A real connection to the arts, ideally music, or a deep appreciation for creative and cultural work
  • The ability to follow established preferences and standards without needing to debate or redesign them
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a natural ability to adapt when priorities shift
  • A grounded, non-transactional orientation — you are motivated by the work itself, not proximity to wealth or status
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in a personal assistant, chief of staff, or high-touch support role is preferred

Working Arrangement

This role is primarily based in Los Angeles / Topanga Canyon, with travel to Boulder, Colorado or Sante Fe, New Mexico occasionally. The individual you'll support splits time between properties in LA and the Boulder area, and your schedule will flex accordingly. Availability in late afternoons is particularly important, as that is often when key conversations and decisions take place. Flexibility and responsiveness are essential.

A Note About This Search

This search is being conducted by Kind World Collective, a mission-driven recruiting firm that partners with purpose-led organizations and individuals. We approach this work with the same care and intentionality we bring to every search.

Candidates who advance in this process will be assessed not only for their capabilities, but for their emotional maturity, trustworthiness, and genuine alignment with the values and working style of the person they will support.

If you are someone who does your best work in close partnership with a thoughtful, accomplished, and high-standards individual — and you bring the depth, discretion, and detail-orientation this role requires — we would love to hear from you.
