Job description

Adjuncts are essential to Liberty University's mission of Training Champions for Christ. It is expected that an adjunct member models a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage in an active commitment to, and experience of, personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. Adjuncts should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end. They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and insofar as it is possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests.
The Department of Studio and Digital Arts invites applications for the adjunct faculty position in Studio Art. We are seeking passionate and professionally active artists to join our team of dedicated educators, committed to fostering creativity, technical skill, and critical thinking in the visual arts.
General Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in studio art, ranging from foundational to advanced levels
  • Foster student growth through technical instruction, creative exploration, and critical dialogue
  • Provide thoughtful critique and mentorship to support students' artistic development

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a practicing artist or illustrator
  • Demonstrated teaching skills with pedagogical excellence
  • A strong portfolio showcasing personal work that reflects contemporary studio practices and/or industry-relevant work
  • A clear and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, to convey clear, well-articulated information, with the ability to understand, speak, and write in English professionally
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with intuitive reasoning and the ability to analyze information/events while applying accurate judgment to solve problems that are both routine and complex
  • Flexibility in a swiftly changing environment
  • Takes initiative while actively seeking opportunities to develop within a collaborative team environment
  • Operate learning management software and other technological tools utilized to facilitate content creation, communication, and planning
  • Embrace and foster Liberty University's mission and strictly adhere to policies, representing the university in an exemplary manner

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Proficiency in traditional and/or experimental media (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media)
  • Familiarity with current trends in art theory and practice
