Associate Attorney – Artificial Intelligence

Direct Counsel is seeking an Associate Attorney to join a leading AmLaw 100 law firm’s rapidly growing Artificial Intelligence practice. This is a highly substantive, client-facing opportunity for an attorney with 2–4 years of experience who is interested in working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, emerging technology, regulation, litigation, and corporate transactions.

The ideal candidate will have experience in regulatory/advisory, corporate transactional, or litigation matters and be interested in developing a practice focused on cutting-edge AI issues. Candidates with either a litigation or corporate background are encouraged to apply, provided they are open to working across corporate, regulatory, and litigation matters.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on AI governance, regulatory compliance, and risk, including emerging AI transparency, disclosure, and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor developments in AI law and regulation and translate emerging requirements into practical, client-ready guidance.

  • Support AI-related corporate and technology transactions, including due diligence, drafting and negotiating agreements, and identifying and mitigating AI-specific risks.

  • Develop subject matter expertise in AI issues within the corporate transactional context and serve as a resource to deal teams across the firm.

  • Conduct legal research and draft briefs, motions, memoranda, correspondence, and other high-quality legal work product in support of litigation and regulatory matters.

  • Support fact development, discovery, depositions, and case strategy in litigation and regulatory investigations.

  • Work collaboratively with attorneys across AI, corporate, litigation, and regulatory practices.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and practical legal advice.

  • Stay current on emerging developments in artificial intelligence, technology, and related legal and regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials, preferably from a nationally recognized law school.

  • 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably gained at an AmLaw 100 or other top-tier law firm.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: regulatory/advisory, corporate transactional, technology transactions, litigation, or regulatory matters.

  • Willingness and ability to work on a mix of corporate and litigation/regulatory matters.

  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong judgment and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to produce polished, high-quality work product under tight deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

  • Admission, or eligibility for admission, in the relevant jurisdiction.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Genuine interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technology.

  • Prior experience advising on AI-related legal or regulatory issues.

  • Experience with technology transactions or AI-related corporate matters.

  • Experience with regulatory investigations or litigation involving emerging technologies.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $235,000–$310,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
