Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Art Lead in Netherlands.

In this role, you will lead and elevate the artistic direction across multiple game development projects, ensuring high-quality visual output across 2D, 3D, animation, and related disciplines. You will be responsible for guiding distributed art teams, maintaining creative consistency, and ensuring that production aligns with both artistic and technical standards. The position combines hands-on artistic judgment with leadership responsibilities, including team development, hiring, and performance oversight. You will collaborate closely with production, design, and technical teams to ensure smooth execution across complex pipelines. A key part of your impact will be shaping team structure, workflows, and resource planning to support scalable and efficient art production. This is a high-responsibility role in a fast-moving, fully remote game development environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the artistic direction and ensure visual quality, consistency, and coherence across multiple game projects
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on artwork across 2D, 3D, animation, and related creative disciplines
  • Oversee art production pipelines and ensure alignment between artistic, technical, and production requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, production, and engineering to ensure project alignment
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and development of artists across multiple teams
  • Define team structure, workload distribution, and resource allocation to support production needs
  • Plan and manage departmental budgets, staffing requirements, and operational capacity
  • Monitor performance, identify gaps, and implement improvements to ensure efficiency and stability
  • Ensure adherence to production best practices, workflows, and platform-specific constraints
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback and resolve artistic or production challenges proactively

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in game art production with leadership responsibility on shipped projects
  • Strong expertise in evaluating artistic quality across 2D, 3D, and animation disciplines
  • Solid understanding of game art production pipelines and cross-functional development workflows
  • Proven experience in team leadership, hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluation of artists
  • Strong background in task scoping, workload planning, budgeting, and resource management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to justify and defend creative decisions
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously
  • Experience collaborating closely with production, design, and technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Trello, or Figma is a plus
  • Experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal is an advantage
