DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
Client is seeking a highly creative and strategic Senior Art Director to join the agency's in-house Creative Services team (CS).
This position provides creative vision and strategic input for TxDOT's traffic safety initiative Drive like a Texan and its media projects, ensuring consistency between designs and alignment with campaign goals. This role is responsible for overseeing the accuracy, quality, consistency, and creative direction of visual and multimedia work produced for external audiences.
The ideal candidate brings exceptional taste, strong design instincts, and a deep familiarity with contemporary visual culture and design trends, including social media and internet-driven trends. This position ensures that all creative materials align with strategic objectives and brand guidelines, and serves as a creative partner to leadership, designers, and multimedia producers-helping shape concepts, elevate execution, and ensure all creative work meets a high bar for quality, clarity, and impact. This role is not primarily production focused. Instead, it is accountable for creative oversight, visual standards, and direction across design and video, from concept through final delivery.
The Senior Art Director should possess strong leadership skills, be able to take ownership of projects and mentor staff, leading consultation and collaboration with cross-functional teams to understand and communicate design requirements. The role should have a keen eye for design and visual aesthetics, and the proficiency in industry-standard technical design software necessary to create mockups, design references, and occasionally implement edits to content directly. Must possess enthusiasm for shaping visual identities and delivering impactful creative work.
Responsibilities
Creative Oversight & Quality
  • Serve as the primary reviewer and creative steward for visual and multimedia production proofs, ensuring work is compelling, on brand, and well executed
  • Set and maintain visual standards across campaigns, projects, and channels (digital, social, video, print, experiential)
  • Ensure design and video work reflects strong aesthetic judgment, clarity, and relevance to modern audiences

Concept Development & Creative Direction
  • Collaborate with designers, media producers, copywriters, and project managers to develop visual concepts, look and feel, and creative approaches
  • Recommend creative solutions that elevate storytelling, solve communication challenges, and resonate culturally
  • Provide direction and feedback throughout the creative process, from early concepts to final outputs

Design & Video Leadership
  • Oversee visual execution for both design and video projects, including motion graphics and post production review
  • Review video concepts, scripts, casting, and post production outputs for quality, tone, and alignment with creative intent
  • Partner with media production staff to ensure visual storytelling is strong and intentional

Collaboration & Mentorship
  • Guide and mentor designers and creatives through constructive feedback and clear creative direction
  • Foster collaboration and creative problem solving within the team and with agency partners
  • Present creative ideas, concepts, and recommendations to project teams and leadership

Cultural Awareness & Trends
  • Stay deeply informed about design trends, digital culture, and social media best practices
  • Apply cultural awareness and audience insight to creative recommendations and reviews

Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensure creative work meets accessibility standards and recommend improvements when needed
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry standard design tools and workflows
  • Identify risks, gaps, or resource needs related to creative quality and execution
