General Summary
The in-person, full-time Art Appreciation & Art History Instructor will primarily teach core Art Appreciation (ARTS 1301) and Art History survey courses (ARTS 1303/1304) in support of Odessa College's instructional mission, with a particular emphasis on dual credit offerings. This position will include face-to-face, hybrid, and online delivery modalities across campus and partner high school sites as appropriate. The successful candidate will foster strong partnerships with dual credit programs while supporting student success and transfer pathways within the Visual and Performing Arts department.
Specific Position Duties
  • Teach a full-time course load in Art Appreciation and Art History with a primary focus on dual credit instruction.
  • Develop and deliver engaging curriculum aligned with the Texas Core Curriculum and departmental standards.
  • Support student success through active learning strategies and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Maintain communication and collaboration with dual credit partner schools, including timely grading, oversight of instructional quality, and participation in dual credit training/credentialing as required.
  • Maintain office hours and provide academic support to a diverse student population.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes, curriculum development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to departmental recruitment and outreach efforts, including those targeting dual credit and prospective art majors.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and actively participate in college and departmental committees.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Art, Art History, Visual Arts, or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Art or Art History.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Art Appreciation and Art History.
  • Commitment to student success and experience working with diverse and early-college student populations.
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn relevant instructional technologies and learning management systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College-level teaching experience in Art Appreciation and Art History, including dual credit or early-college instruction.
  • Experience delivering instruction across multiple modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online).
  • Background in assessment, curriculum development, and high-impact teaching practices.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with high-school partners and support student transition to college programs.
