Job description

Duties * Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage. * Enforce the security regulations of the installation. * Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation. * Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means. * Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate. * Conduct vehicle searches and inspections. * Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas. Requirements Conditions of employment * This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. * Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. * Position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location. * Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime. * Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. * In accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program. * This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis. * Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56. * Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. * Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training. * Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency. * Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals. * Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors. * Incumbent must wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene. * The duties and training require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary. * Incumbent is required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. * Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments. * Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. * Incumbent must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is . Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or 2) Maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. * Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
