Job description

Summary of Position

Manage donated clothing and items by sorting, pricing, and appropriately displaying items received. Lifting heavy boxes and picking up items at their location as needed. Must be able to operate an electronic cash register and accurately make monetary transactions.

$12.42 per hour, 19 hours a week

Qualifications

High school diploma, or general equivalence diploma (GED) and you must be at least 18 years of age. Possess an aptitude in both written and oral communication, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters and be well organized and efficient. Helpful, courteous and respectful demeanor, with ability to work well with fellow employees and volunteers, take supervision from thrift store management and demonstrate concern for thrift store customers. The qualified candidate must be able to pass The Salvation Army's clerical screenings and MVR drivers' qualification. Must pass the background checks and be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to fill out donation receipts for donors.
  • Maintain a positive, cooperative and friendly atmosphere when dealing with donors
  • Occasionally stock items in the store
  • Help clean and organize any area you are working in at end of shift before punching out.
  • Running a cash register
  • Assist in other duties as may be requested by the store management and/or officers

Responsibilities in Handling Donations:

  • Occasionally sort donated items
  • Place clothing and items on display in the appropriate sales area as needed
  • Throw away all stained, torn, and damaged goods
  • Pricing of donated items

Additional responsibilities:

  • Attend meetings
  • Assist with housekeeping and other chores to maintain the store in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers. This would include, but is not limited to such actions: work as a team with co-workers for better store efficiency, resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person and professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, and subordinates.
  • Support the mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client and colleague with individual respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
  • And all other duties as assigned and consistent with the mission of The Salvation Army.

Working Conditions

There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant working conditions, with the exception of the occasional emotional distress, physical distress or turmoil (due to carrying situations) with and between staff and/or clients. This is a part time position working 21 hours per week and benefits as described in the employee handbook. The normal working schedule is subject to change based on mission needs. This is primarily a Thrift Store environment and this position is Monday - Saturday. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home. Benefits as outlined in the Employee Handbook and a 90 day introductory period.
