The mission of the Department of Military is to provide a professional staff of Arkansas State Employees who help maintain and improve the readiness of Arkansas National Guard units through effective fiscal management of State Resources, Human Resource Management, and quality administration of Arkansas National Guard Programs.
Additional job duties and/or day-in-the-life details:
This position is responsible for the following:
  • This position requires frequent trimming of bushes and shrubs to maintain a seamless, clean landscape.
  • After storms and high winds, you may be required to remove and properly dispose of debris.
  • There are multiple flower beds throughout the campus that will require removal of all weeds and the addition of mulch, when needed.
  • Spot treat weeds throughout the campus to include the cracks of sidewalks, parking lots and other paved areas.
  • Removal of leaves, grass clippings and any other debris from the entry ways of campus facilities.
  • Must be able to operate and maintain the following equipment: Chainsaws, String Trimmers, Pole Saws, Blowers, Hedge Trimmers, Reciprocating Saws, Loppers and Pruners.
  • Must be willing to follow all safety procedures to include wearing required personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to: gloves, eye protection, hard hats, hearing protection, chainsaw chaps, and steel/composite toe boots.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, soil management practices, and sustainable landscaping techniques.
  • A willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is essential.
  • Light Travel may be required.

Job Summary
The Landscape Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing landscape projects and maintenance activities to create and sustain attractive, ecologically sound, and functional outdoor spaces. This role involves coordinating between design teams, maintenance crews, vendors, and a variety of assorted personnel to ensure that landscape projects-from routine upkeep to special installations-are executed efficiently and in line with technical, aesthetic, and environmental standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive landscape maintenance and enhancement plans.Schedule and supervise routine maintenance tasks as well as special project initiatives, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for tasks such as planting, irrigation, pest control, and installation of landscape features.Collaborate with landscape architects, designers, and horticultural experts to implement sustainable and aesthetically pleasing designs.Assist in the selection of appropriate plants, materials, and design features that satisfy environmental guidelines and project goals.Visit project sites regularly to assess the health and appearance of landscaped areas, evaluate soil and irrigation systems, and implement corrective measures as needed.Document project progress, maintenance activities, and any issues that arise, ensuring accuracy and transparency in the record-keeping process.Ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining high-quality standards.Communicate with government officials, community groups, and internal personnel to align landscape projects with broader environmental and civic objectives.
Knowledge and Skills
Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, soil management practices, and sustainable landscaping techniques.A willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to follow directions.
May be required to lift at least 50 pounds.
