Senior Software Engineer - Enterprise Systems

Astranis

San Francisco, CA

$144K - $190K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 2 days ago

Job description

Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer - Enterprise Systems

Astranis is scaling satellite production at a record pace. Building constellations of commercial geostationary spacecraft requires orchestrating hundreds of engineers, thousands of flight-critical components, and complex factory testbeds. To make that happen, we need an agile, highly-automated software platform that connects hardware design, global supply chains, and factory-floor testing.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and ship the mission-critical applications, data pipelines, and internal tools that power spacecraft production. You will work cross-functionally to build software that will be used daily by aerospace engineers, manufacturing technicians, and executive leadership to accelerate development and ensure mission readiness. This role spans every layer of our platform: architecting scalable backend APIs and data stores, crafting responsive UIs for engineering workflows, and shipping data pipelines and AI automations.

If you're a backend engineer who wants to see their code directly impact physical machines heading to orbit, come build with us.

What You'll Do:
  • Full Lifecycle Ownership: Own projects end-to-end-from scoping and architecture through frontend/backend implementation, automated testing, deployment, and iteration.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with aerospace engineers, manufacturing technicians, supply chain managers, and operators to turn complex physical processes into robust software.
  • Platform Reliability & Quality: Write clean, modular code and build automated CI/CD and observability tooling to keep critical factory systems resilient and highly available.
What You'll Build:
  • Production & Testbed Infrastructure: Develop web apps, APIs, and microservices (FastAPI, React, Kubernetes/K3s) orchestrating Hardware Test Frameworks, automated inventory tracking, and satellite testbeds.
  • Core Digital Backbone: Architect robust integrations connecting our entire engineering stack, from CAD (Altium/SolidWorks) to PLM (Arena), MES (ION), and ERP (NetSuite).
  • Supply Chain & Build Readiness: Build real-time supply chain and inventory systems that track serialized flight components and streamline factory production flow.
  • Data Platform & Analytics: Design scalable streaming and batch pipelines that ingest telemetry, manufacturing, and procurement data into our data warehouse to power company-wide analytics.
  • AI & Workflow Orchestration: Deploy internal AI tooling and automated workflows (n8n, LLM integrations) that eliminate manual bottlenecks and multiply engineering velocity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Python (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, or async frameworks).
  • Proficiency with JavaScript or TypeScript, with experience building UIs in React.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining robust RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Solid database foundations with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL) including schema design, query optimization, and caching strategies (e.g., Redis).
  • Experience with containerization and cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes/GKE, and GCP or AWS).
  • Strong proficiency with Linux environments, CI/CD pipelines, and Git workflows.

Bonus

  • Domain Tools & Integrations: Prior experience building integrations or custom tooling around engineering, PLM, MES, or ERP platforms (e.g., Altium, Arena PLM, First Resonance ION, NetSuite).
  • Aerospace & Manufacturing: Background working in hardware-centric environments such as aerospace, automotive, robotics, or complex precision manufacturing.
  • Data Engineering: Experience with data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and modern analytics stacks (BigQuery, Snowflake, dbt).
