Description
The City of Mason City is seeking an Arena & Ice Maintenance Technician to help lead operations at our Multipurpose Arena, a premier destination for recreation, entertainment, and community events in North Iowa.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and event readiness of the Multipurpose Arena.
  • Supervise and direct facility maintenance staff, assisting with the hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining employees.
  • Manage building systems and equipment, including ice rink systems, electrical, plumbing, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Oversee ice operations including maintenance, resurfacing, equipment upkeep, and scheduling as applicable.
  • Coordinate and supervise facility setup and teardown for events, including sporting events, concerts, and community activities.
  • Oversee custodial operations, including in-house staff and contracted services, ensuring facilities meet cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for facility operations and recommends purchases as needed.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for facility operations during assigned shifts or in absence of higher-level management.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, tenant relations, and event logistics to ensure successful operations.
  • Monitor facility safety and risk management practices, including compliance with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Support development and implementation of operational procedures to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five or more seasons of experience in ice operations and facility maintenance, or a similar environment.
  • Experience with ice arena operations or large multi-use facilities preferred.
  • Associate degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to appointment. Must maintain compliance with City's Administrative Policy on Operation of City Vehicles (AP 5.03).
