Job description

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is hiring a full-time Retail Area Manager, based out of the New York City Area. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual to work closely with the founding team of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream as the company embarks on its next stage of major growth. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about people leadership and development, thrives in a fast paced high volume setting, is intrinsically motivated and loves operating with strong attention to detail (and loves ice cream!). 

The Area Manager will report directly to the Regional Area Manager and will oversee Multi-Unit General Managers who manage our Brick and Mortar locations in NYC. The Area Manager's primary responsibility will be to oversee the General Manager team and hourly team leadership/development, operational excellence, and guest experience while upholding the Van Leeuwen culture. The Area Manager will be responsible for retail team performance and happiness, guest experience, store performance both financially and operationally, schedule approval and labor, high-level payroll functions, quality of product, and maintaining all food safety within each location. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Train, coach, supervise and provide support to assigned GM's to achieve store metrics
  • Ensure successful rollout of new products, systems, practices and policies
  • Communicate regularly with team members
  • Work with HR to ensure all company policies are being followed
  • Oversee staffing efforts with HR
  • Analyze GM performance and provide feedback, guidance, training and encouragement
  • Provide operational solutions to issues that arise in the stores
  • Assist GM with order placement and delivery coordination
  • Assist in monitoring overall customer experience
  • Assist GM with health department inspections and preparation
  • Spend regular time in stores in order to fine-tune processes and keep tabs on employees
  • Assume leadership role in stores where a GM is not present

Job Requirements

  • 6+ years of retail leadership experience (experience in a district or area manager position required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google-suite tools
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to train and coach team members of all levels
  • Ability to multitask
  • Able to push/pull 50 lbs of weight
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to repeatedly bend over
  • Must be based in New York City Metro Area
