Position Summary:
The Achieves Assistant will contribute to the preservation and accessibility of historical materials related to Maharishi and the university. By scanning archival documents of high quality and integrating them into the SOMA (Searchable Online Maharishi Archive) software system, this role significantly accelerates efforts to digitize and organize the complete body of Maharishi's teachings on SOMA, benefiting students, faculty, TM teachers, and the public by providing easy access to this valuable knowledge.

This position is ideal for students in any degree program who are inspired to contribute to MIU's preservation of knowledge, aligning with the university's mission of fostering holistic education, and those who are interested in research and history of MIU, archival work, digital preservation, or related fields.
Experience Gained / Advantages for Student:
  • Hands-on experience in archival sorting and procedures of preservation, digitization, and documentation methods while gaining an understanding of Vedic literature.
  • Enhancement of organizational skills in the workplace, as well as computer skills, including proficiency in Adobe Pro and other archival software.
  • Expand the accessibility of valuable historical resources regarding Maharishi, the history of the TM Org and MIU.
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Scan archival documents with precision and care to ensure high-quality digital reproduction.
  2. Upload documents to the SOMA software and input important publishing information.
  3. Assess and categorize documents and transcripts.
  4. Organize the archival collections that are presently held by MIU archives to preserve them according to standard archival procedures.
  5. Assist in publishing reference materials for student and faculty research.

Job Qualifications:
  • Trustworthy and diligent in handling secure documents, with awareness of security and responsibility of keeping materials safe.
  • Strong work ethic with attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Desire to learn about archival practices.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Adobe Pro, with a quick ability to learn new applications such as SOMA software.
