General Summary
The LRC Archive Technician is a Work-Study student position responsible for supporting the preservation, organization, digitization, and accessibility of historical and archival materials housed within the Learning Resources Center. The position will assist with the ongoing digitization of the LRC Archive Room, including the organization and preparation of materials for digital preservation and research access.
The Archive Technician will also assist with research using historical newspaper databases, including Newspapers.com, and will help identify, document, and preserve materials that contribute to the history and heritage of Odessa College and the surrounding community.
In addition to archival responsibilities, the position will serve as a student liaison for select special projects across campus that support community enrichment, historical awareness, cultural programming, and the preservation and sharing of institutional knowledge.
Specific Position Duties
Archival Digitization & Preservation
  • Assist with the organization, inventory, and preparation of materials housed in the LRC Archive Room.
  • Digitize photographs, documents, publications, newspapers, memorabilia, and other archival materials using approved equipment and procedures.
  • Create and maintain basic digital records and metadata for digitized materials.
  • Follow established procedures for naming, organizing, storing, and preserving digital files.
  • Assist with identifying materials that require special handling or preservation of attention.
  • Help maintain an organized physical and digital archive.
  • Assist LRC staff with developing and maintaining an inventory of archival collections.
  • Handle historical materials carefully and follow appropriate preservation practices.

Historical Research
  • Conduct research using Newspapers.com and other approved historical databases and resources.
  • Locate historical references related to Odessa College, students, faculty, alumni, programs, events, and the surrounding community.
  • Assist with verifying dates, names, events, and other historical information found in archival materials.
  • Identify newspaper articles, photographs, advertisements, announcements, and other materials that may be valuable to the college's institutional history.
  • Compile research findings for use in archival collections, displays, social media, presentations, exhibits, and special projects.

Campus & Community Enrichment Projects
  • Serve as a student liaison for designated special projects involving the LRC and campus departments.
  • Assist with projects that highlight Odessa College history, student experiences, community heritage, and institutional accomplishments.
  • Assist with campus departments on projects involving historical materials, exhibits, displays, celebrations, and community programming.
  • Assist with the development of historical displays, digital exhibits, informational materials, and other community enrichment initiatives.
  • Help identify opportunities to connect LRC archival resources with campus events and community engagement activities.
  • Represent the LRC in a professional and positive manner when assisting with campus projects.

Library & LRC Support
  • Assist library staff with projects related to special collections, archives, and institutional history.
  • Provide basic assistance to faculty, staff, students, or approved researchers seeking information from archival materials.
  • Assist with preparing materials for exhibits, presentations, campus events, and public displays.
  • Participate in LRC projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate appropriate care when working with institutional records and historical materials.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled as an Odessa College student and eligible for Work-Study employment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
