What is architectural staffing?

Architectural staffing refers to the process of recruiting, hiring, and managing professionals for architectural projects or firms. This can include architects, designers, drafters, project managers, and other related roles. Staffing agencies or in-house HR teams match skilled candidates with the needs of architecture firms, ensuring projects are adequately resourced. Effective architectural staffing helps organizations meet deadlines, stay within budget, and maintain the quality of their work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in architectural staffing, and why are they important?

To excel in Architectural Staffing, a strong understanding of architectural workflows, talent acquisition, and industry standards is essential, often supported by a degree in architecture, human resources, or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), architectural design software, and recruiting platforms is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to assess both technical and cultural fit help professionals excel in this role. These competencies are vital for effectively matching architectural talent to project needs, ensuring organizational success and project delivery.

What are some common challenges faced in architectural staffing, and how can professionals prepare for them?

Professionals in architectural staffing often encounter challenges such as matching specialized skills with project needs, adapting quickly to changing project timelines, and managing communication between candidates and firm leadership. Staying current with industry trends, maintaining a network of qualified architects, and using effective recruitment technologies can help address these issues. Additionally, strong organizational skills and the ability to understand both technical requirements and team dynamics are essential for success in this role.

Candidate will work full-time in our creative office located in Piscataway, NJ.

5-10 years previous experience

All resumes must include a cover letter

Position Summary:

Are you an independent thinker who enjoys a fast paced and dynamic workplace where you can contribute to the design and production of residential and commercial architecture?

We are seeking a skilled Architectural Staff member with 5–10 years of experience to join our integrated architecture and development team focused on multi-family and commercial projects based in New Jersey.

This role involves leading design and documentation efforts, coordinating with consultants and in-house development teams, and supporting projects through all phases from concept to construction.

The ideal candidate brings strong Revit skills, knowledge of local codes and zoning, and a practical understanding of how design decisions impact constructability and development goals.

This is a hands-on, mid-level role with opportunities for leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and professional growth. Licensure is preferred but not required.

  • Lead design and documentation efforts on multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial projects from concept design through construction administration.
  • Work directly with in-house development teams to interpret project goals, budgets, and pro forma into viable architectural solutions.
  • Manage zoning and code analyses; prepare regulatory submittals, including for site plan approvals, planning boards, and building permits.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal construction teams to ensure design intent is realized efficiently and accurately.
  • Develop and oversee production of schematic design, design development, and construction documentation sets using Revit and other BIM tools.
  • Lead the integration of architectural design with structural, MEP, civil, and landscape disciplines to ensure complete and coordinated documents.
  • Attend and lead internal meetings and site visits; serve as a liaison between architecture, development, and construction teams.
  • Review and respond to RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals during construction; help troubleshoot field conditions with pragmatic, buildable solutions.
  • Mentor junior team members, reviewing drawings and modeling work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Contribute to design quality, project delivery standards, and process improvements within the architecture team.

  • Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited program
  • 5–10 years of professional architectural experience, with a strong portfolio of multi-family residential, commercial, or mixed-use projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit is required; familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering tools preferred.
  • Licensure preferred (or on path to licensure)

In return, we offer competitive compensation, along with comprehensive benefits, including medical and dental and vision benefits,

life insurance, a 401(k) with company match and a corporate team environment with opportunity of advancement. Also includes on-site company fitness gym, discounts on housing and home appliances.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
