What is an arboretum?

An arboretum is a specialized type of botanical garden that focuses on the cultivation, study, and display of trees, shrubs, and other woody plants. These collections are often maintained for scientific research, conservation, education, and public enjoyment. Arboreta may feature labeled specimens from around the world, providing valuable resources for botanists, horticulturists, and nature lovers. They play a critical role in preserving plant biodiversity and educating the public about the importance of trees and ecosystems.

Professionals working in an arboretum often encounter challenges such as managing plant health across diverse species, dealing with invasive pests or diseases, and balancing conservation with public education.
