Champaign-Urbana Public Health District

Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking to fill a full-time (40-hour week) Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training position. The position will be under the direct supervision of a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP).

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform technical field inspections of public places such as restaurants, retail establishments, water wells, private sewage and water supply systems to ensure that these environments are safe and healthy.
  • Assist in the enforcement of environmental and public health laws and regulations
  • Public Health Emergency Response Responsibilities: All District employees must be able to respond to public health emergencies when needed and appropriate. During an emergency response, employee may be assigned to a role in either operations, logistics, or administration by the Incident Commander and/or Section Chief in addition to regular duties.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as required.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental health or a closely related field with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in physical or biological science
  • Must acquire an Illinois Environmental Health Practitioner's license within three (3) years of employment.
  • Valid driver's license, dependable transportation and proof of auto insurance

The expected annual starting salary is $47,170. Full annual salary for a Class 5 Environmental Health Specialist In-Training is $47,170 - $63,679 for a 40-hour week.
