What is an AR analyst?

An AR (Accounts Receivable) Analyst is a finance professional responsible for managing and analyzing a company's incoming payments, outstanding invoices, and overall receivables process. Their main duties include reconciling accounts, resolving payment discrepancies, monitoring customer credit, and preparing reports on receivables. AR Analysts work to ensure that payments are collected promptly, cash flow remains healthy, and financial records are accurate. They often collaborate with other finance team members and communicate with clients to resolve billing issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AR analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AR Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in finance or accounting, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, as well as proficiency in Excel, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills help you effectively manage accounts and liaise with clients. These competencies are crucial for ensuring timely collections, accurate reporting, and maintaining healthy cash flow for the organization.

What are some common challenges faced by AR analysts, and how can they effectively overcome them?

AR Analysts often encounter challenges such as delayed payments, discrepancies in invoices, and managing high volumes of outstanding receivables. To overcome these, strong communication skills are essential for following up with clients, while attention to detail helps in identifying and resolving discrepancies quickly. Utilizing specialized AR software and collaborating closely with both the sales and accounting teams can streamline processes and improve cash flow management. Regular training on new financial systems and regulations also helps AR Analysts stay effective in their roles.

AP/AR Analyst at Duraco Specialty Materials
Are you the type of accounting professional who enjoys digging into the numbers, solving problems, and helping leaders make better business decisions? Do you want a role that goes beyond processing transactions and gives you an opportunity to influence operations, improve processes, and drive results?
What the Role Involves
The AP/AR Analyst will support our manufacturing operations by managing key accounting processes, analyzing financial performance, and providing insights that help guide business decisions. In this role, you'll partner with leaders across Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance while playing a critical role in maintaining accurate financial information and supporting the financial health of the business.
If you're looking for an opportunity to expand your impact, take ownership, and be part of a collaborative team that values continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
  • Partner with plant leadership to provide financial analysis and operational insights that support business decisions.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, including billing, invoice processing, payments, credits, adjustments, ACH transactions, and reconciliations.
  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance, inventory activity, purchase price variances, and cost-related trends.
  • Monitor customer aging, collections activity, vendor accounts, and payment trends to improve cash flow and working capital performance.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve accuracy.
  • Maintain vendor, customer, and financial master data within the ERP system.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and improve reporting capabilities.
  • Support internal and external audits and provide backup support for other accounting functions as needed.
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger support, and account reconciliations.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Analytical mindset with a passion for problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Ability to balance detailed transactional work with higher-level financial analysis.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Why Join Us?
  • Play a visible role supporting plant operations and business performance.
  • Gain exposure to both accounting and manufacturing operations.
  • Work cross-functionally with leaders throughout the organization.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives that make a measurable impact.
  • Join a team that values collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
If this role aligns with how you want to work and grow, we encourage you to apply.
