Job description

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with the Operations Supervisor in implementing and formulating policies and objectives to ensure the safest and most efficient way of cleaning the facility
  • Follow and enforce all Newport Aquarium policies and procedures, and make recommendations to enhance the operation so as to ensure consistency and safety
  • Lead, coach and guide a staff of up to 15 team members to ensure they maintain high morale and understand their role and its importance to the overall guest experience
  • Observe, evaluate and review team member performance for compliance with department standards including tracking performance
  • Help management develop, encourage, and monitor a highly motivated and productive team
  • Maintain appropriate guest and employee relations at all times, ensuring guest and employee satisfaction and safety
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure that assigned personnel maintain knowledge of aquarium activities and operations so as to effectively answer questions from guests
  • Handle comments, complaints and suggestions regarding policy and procedure from guests and hosts; escalate issues to management when necessary
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of friendliness, courteousness, professionalism and service to ensure guest excellence and satisfaction
  • Maintain inventory of adequate supplies and assist in the ordering of all necessary products
  • Provide on-boarding and ongoing training to team members in order to maintain knowledge of aquarium activities and operations
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude as well as a well-kept appearance at all times
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently while continuing to be disciplined, reliable, and accountable
  • Perform all duties of House and Grounds employees including but not limited to mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, wiping walls, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations management team

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 18 years old or older
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Prior experience related to industrial cleaning preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is a plus
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language (knowledge of other languages is a plus)
  • Must be able to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or emergency situations
  • Time management and excellent organizational skills needed; able to balance and prioritize multiple duties and responsibilities
  • Must handle confidential information responsibly
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, BBP, and Emergency Response trained or willingness to become trained
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Willingness to take direction and coaching from experienced staff members in order to improve your skills and enhance the guest experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a constantly changing environment as well as individually, with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, weekends and holidays
    • Weekend availability needed. We have a need for Sunday and Mondays.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced job and remain courteous, friendly and helpful to guests and fellow hosts at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check
  • In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor
  • No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist and turn
  • Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Immunocompetence (possible exposure to infections and parasitic disease)
