Job description

About the Position:
American Para Professional Systems, Inc. (APPS) is a nationwide provider of mobile life and disability insurance examination services. With more than 100 offices across the United States, APPS is known for professional, reliable, and high-quality service.

Role Overview:
When someone applies for life or disability insurance, the insurance company may require a medical examination. APPS works with insurance companies to arrange these exams, which are performed by independent contractors.
As an Independent Contractor Examiner, you will conduct basic health examinations at convenient locations such as clients’ homes, workplaces, insurance offices, or APPS facilities.

Responsibilities:

Your duties may include:
  • Conducting basic health screenings and collecting medical history.
  • Recording information about illnesses, surgeries, medications, and healthcare providers.
  • Measuring height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and waist-to-hip ratio.
  • Collecting blood, urine, and occasionally saliva samples.
  • Performing blood draws using a two-tube vacutainer system. Strong phlebotomy skills are required.
  • Performing EKGs using portable equipment when needed. Training is provided.
  • Preparing specimens for shipment.
  • Completing all required paperwork accurately.
  • Communicating professionally with clients, insurance agents, and APPS offices.
Most examinations take 15–45 minutes, depending on the insurance company’s requirements.

Qualifications:

Applicants must:
  • Pass a background check.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, auto insurance, and a mobile phone.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Have strong phlebotomy and venipuncture skills.
  • Understand basic medical terminology and human anatomy.
  • Be comfortable using computers, printers, and scanners.
  • Have strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Be able to accurately collect and document medical histories.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, insurance agents, and APPS staff.
  • Have EKG experience, or be willing to complete training.

Schedule:
This is an independent contractor position with a flexible schedule. You are responsible for managing your own availability and appointments.

Compensation:
  • Pay is based on examiner availability and the number of completed examinations.
  • Payments and approved reimbursements are made every two weeks by direct deposit.
