Job description

At CF&I Steel, L.P., our strength starts with our people! As a team we collaborate to solve problems, contribute ideas and challenge each other to ensure growth and ultimately success for the business and our employees.

We are seeking Mechanic to join our Maintenance team at our Pueblo, Colorado location. As a mechanic you will overhaul, service and repair mobile equipment in a safe manner. This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

  • Troubleshoot, determine and obtain parts and make necessary repairs to mobile equipment
  • Perform service, cutting and welding
  • Overhaul engines, transmissions and differentials
  • Operate most mobile equipment.
  • Make out records for jobs on each piece of equipment
  • Use hand and pneumatic tools, steam cleaner, jacks, hoists, hydraulic press, torches, tips, welders, forklifts, boom crane, trucks, travel lifts, straddle carriers, crimping machine, diagnostic equipment, oils, lubricants, gaskets and necessary safety equipment
  • Observe all safety rules and LOTO procedures
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly
  • Perform routine maintenance and assists Maintenance personnel
  • Provide direction and instruction to others in the trainee program
  • Work in both inside and outside environmental conditions, while exposed to elevated noise levels, vibrations, extreme cold and heat; close proximity to moving parts and vehicles; exposure high heat, hot surfaces, chemicals, grease and oils; utilize respirator as conditions require
  • Obtain and maintain OSHA 10 and equipment certifications, as required
  • Additional tasksas assigned

Requirements

  • Must complete or have the equivalent of a Mechanic Apprenticeship
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or mining; experience working with machinery, equipment operation or a closely related field preferred
  • Competent in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes and spaces; able to take precise measurements and calculate necessary dimensions
  • Valid Colorado Drivers License
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and manage your time when given multiple tasks
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of personnel
  • Physical ability to climb, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, make repetitive motions, hear, etc.and the ability to occasionally exert forces up to 100 pounds to lift, carry, push and pull
  • Qualified Candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency through testing
