Job description
Job Description Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Broadcasting & Video Services reports to the Director of Broadcast & Video Services and supports the effective operation of all aspects of broadcast video production, in-venue video display, and related services. This position is responsible for coordinating live game and event productions, creating broadcast content, editing video footage, maintaining and operating broadcast equipment, and ensuring compliance with institutional, conference, NCAA, FCC, and applicable legal requirements. The role also contributes to strategic planning, staff supervision, and the delivery of high-quality broadcast experiences that support the University's athletics and institutional objectives.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Coordinate production of live broadcasts, streaming events, and in-venue video displays for athletic contests and other assigned university events. Edit video footage from games, events, interviews, and other productions. Research, develop, and execute storytelling concepts that align with institutional branding standards and objectives.
Operate, maintain, transport, and troubleshoot broadcast equipment, including cameras, audio systems, editing software, computers, and related production technology. Create and collaborate on production concepts, schedules, scripts, graphics, sponsorship content, and other broadcast elements. Develop and maintain all content and production components associated with live video events while ensuring compliance with institutional, conference, NCAA, and broadcast partner standards.
Coordinate with athletics and conference staff regarding event schedules, broadcast plans, and distribution channels. Ensure adherence to FCC regulations, University policies, conference requirements, NCAA guidelines, and all applicable state and federal laws. Monitor industry trends and recommend process improvements, technologies, and production enhancements.
Provide exceptional customer service and support to students, staff, vendors, partners, and event stakeholders. Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student workers, interns, contractors, and volunteers supporting broadcasts and productions. Prepare and execute live and recorded broadcasts for multiple sports and campus events.
Create and deliver public service announcements, sponsorship messages, interviews, reports, and promotional content. Support social media and promotional efforts related to athletic and university broadcast programming. Maintain confidentiality regarding personnel matters, strategic initiatives, and other sensitive information.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of broadcast-quality event production, including camera operation, lighting, audio recording and mixing, video editing, graphics creation, and special effects. Knowledge of broadcast production formats, workflows, signal flow, and media delivery processes, including SDI, HD video encoding, RTMP streaming, QuickTime and H.264 video formats, SMPTE, and fiber-based transmission systems
Ability to make effective real-time production decisions while ensuring quality standards, budget requirements, and deadlines are met. Strong technical proficiency with broadcast equipment, automation systems, digital production software, and computer networking systems. Proficiency with PC and Mac systems supporting pre-production, production, post-production, and project management workflows.
Strong project management, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of technical expertise.
Ability to train, motivate, supervise, and evaluate student employees and production staff. Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing priorities. Strong attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and ethical decision-making.
Knowledge of social media platforms and their use in promoting broadcast content and events. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive matters. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Digital Media, Sports Media, Video Production, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience in live event broadcasting, video production, or related media operations. Experience operating professional broadcast equipment and software. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours as required by event schedules.
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 70 pounds as needed. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive hand and finger movements for extended periods. Ideal Candidate Qualifications: Experience supporting Division I athletics, collegiate sports broadcasting, or multi-platform live event productions.
Experience coordinating and managing live-streaming and broadcast operations for multiple simultaneous events. Demonstrated success supervising student employees, interns, volunteers, or part-time production staff. Knowledge of NCAA, conference, and broadcast partner production standards and requirements.
Proven ability to innovate, implement new technologies, and recommend process improvements. High level of initiative, motivation, adaptability, and problem-solving ability. Positive, service-oriented mindset with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration and client satisfaction.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while maintaining quality and professionalism. Work Environment: Work is performed in both office and event-production settings, including athletic venues and remote production locations. Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, and computer work.
Requires frequent manual dexterity and operation of broadcast and production equipment. Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor event conditions. May require lifting, carrying, and transporting broadcast equipment and materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
Schedule includes nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on athletic event and production demands. Fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects and strict production deadlines. Pay Grade: 7 Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position.
However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time. International candidates are encouraged to apply, but should be aware that eligibility for sponsorship will be evaluated in accordance with current U.S
immigration regulations and institutional policies.
