Program Overview
The Oklahoma Warriors NAHL and OKC Warriors NA3HL Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on experience in live sports broadcasting and media operations within a junior hockey organization. Interns will work directly with the media and production staff to support game broadcasts, content development, and overall game day presentation throughout the hockey season.
This internship provides practical exposure to live play-by-play and color commentary, interview preparation, broadcast production, and digital content creation in a fast-paced sports environment. Interns will gain valuable experience serving as on-air talent during Oklahoma Warriors and OKC Warriors home games and special events.
Program Objectives
โ€ข Provide practical experience in live sports broadcasting and media operations.
โ€ข Develop on-air communication, storytelling, and interview skills.
โ€ข Expose interns to live production workflows and broadcast equipment.
โ€ข Foster professional growth through collaboration with media, production, and hockey operations staff.
โ€ข Build confidence, adaptability, and professionalism in a live event setting.
Internship Structure & Responsibilities
1. Live Broadcast Commentary (Primary Focus)
โ€ข Deliver live play-by-play and/or color commentary for home game broadcasts.
โ€ข Provide pregame introductions, intermission updates, and postgame recaps.
โ€ข Research teams, players, and storylines to enhance broadcast quality.
โ€ข Conduct interviews with players, coaches, and team staff.
โ€ข Maintain accuracy, professionalism, and energy while representing the organization.
2. Broadcast Production & Media Support
โ€ข Assist with setup, testing, and operation of broadcast equipment.
โ€ข Collaborate with the media team on storylines, graphics, and game-day content.
โ€ข Support social media and content creation as part of the media team.
โ€ข Coordinate with league partners and in-house staff to manage live streams.
โ€ข Work with official scorers and hockey operations staff to obtain accurate lineups and game information.
3. Game Day Operations
โ€ข Assist with broadcast and media logistics during home games.
โ€ข Coordinate with production staff to ensure smooth execution of live broadcasts.
โ€ข Provide operational support wherever needed throughout events.
โ€ข Participate in promotional and community events when applicable.
Learning Outcomes
โ€ข Gain hands-on experience calling live junior hockey games.
โ€ข Develop a professional portfolio of broadcast footage and on-air work.
โ€ข Strengthen storytelling, interviewing, and communication skills.

โ€ข Clear speaking voice, strong articulation, and ability to think on your feet.
โ€ข Knowledge of hockey rules, terminology, and game flow preferred.
โ€ข Ability to work evenings, weekends, and game days.
โ€ข Experience with live broadcasting, audio equipment, or streaming platforms is a plus but not required.
โ€ข Professionalism, reliability, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
โ€ข Positive, coachable, and eager to learn.
Internship Duration
This internship will span the full hockey season from September through April. Interns will work flexible hours based on the team schedule, including nights, weekends, and home games.
Because game nights provide the majority of hands-on learning opportunities, interns should plan to be present for most of the Oklahoma Warriors and/or OKC Warriors home games and team events throughout the season.
Multiple internship positions are available.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship; however, college credit may be earned if applicable through the intern's academic institution.
Benefits
  • Hands-on experience calling live junior hockey broadcasts.
  • Opportunity to build a professional broadcast reel and portfolio.
  • Four complimentary tickets to each home game.
  • Mentorship and collaborative learning opportunities within the media and production department.
  • Real-world experience in sports broadcasting and content creation.
