Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Installation Technician Apprentice is an entry-level position responsible for training alongside experienced technicians to learn the installation, service, and maintenance standards for electronic security systems.
The Apprentice will develop technical knowledge and hands-on experience supporting commercial security system installations and service operations while adhering to Tech Systems’ policies, procedures, and safety standards.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Under the direction and supervision of experienced technicians, the Apprentice will learn and assist with the following:
  • Responding to installation projects and service calls within the assigned service area with the objective of installing, servicing, and restoring systems to full functionality.
  • Following established processes and procedures to ensure all assigned tasks are completed accurately, safely, and in accordance with Tech Systems’ policies and standards.
  • Communicating with customers and internal team members regarding the status, progress, and completion of assigned work.
  • Assisting with the installation and service of low-voltage electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, and related technologies.
  • Supporting troubleshooting and technical support activities as needed.
  • Assisting with other operational duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Manager, Regional Vice President, or TSi executive leadership.
EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE
  • Prior electronics, low-voltage, construction, or technical education/experience preferred.
  • Experience with card access systems and CCTV installation is a plus, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, amp; COMPETENCY
  • Basic working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and other related software applications.
  • Exposure to or interest in networking and IP-based systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Smartsheet or similar project management applications preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills with a sense of urgency and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment..
  • Commitment to following all safety rules, regulations, and safe work practices.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, customers, and vendors.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must maintain a driving record acceptable to TSi’s automobile insurance carrier.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily performed at client locations and requires regular physical activity, including but not limited to walking, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
The employee must regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects exceeding 50 pounds. Duties require the use of hands and tools to manipulate, install, and disassemble equipment and systems.
The position may involve exposure to electrical wiring, electricity, construction environments, and other related hazards. Frequent driving and travel are required.
