How much do apprentice salary jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for apprentice salary in Raleigh, NC is $21.41, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.83 and $23.37 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an apprentice salary?

An apprentice salary is the wage paid to individuals who are undergoing training in a specific trade or profession through an apprenticeship program. Apprentice salaries are typically lower than those of fully qualified workers because apprentices are still learning on the job under the supervision of experienced professionals. The exact amount varies depending on the industry, location, and year of apprenticeship, but wages often increase as the apprentice gains more experience and skills. In some regions, there are minimum wage requirements for apprentices to ensure fair compensation during their training period.

What are some common challenges faced by apprentices during their training period?

Apprentices often encounter the challenge of balancing on-the-job responsibilities with classroom learning, as they are expected to develop practical skills while mastering theoretical concepts. Another common hurdle is adapting to the workplace culture and expectations, which can be especially demanding for those new to the industry. Time management and effective communication with supervisors and colleagues are key to overcoming these challenges and making the most of the apprenticeship experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an apprentice, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Apprentice, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, a willingness to learn, and a foundational understanding of the industry you are entering. Familiarity with industry-specific tools, safety protocols, and sometimes basic certifications (like OSHA for trades) are often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and a proactive attitude help apprentices stand out and adapt quickly. These skills and qualities are essential for developing competence, ensuring safety, and making the most of on-the-job training opportunities.

What is the difference between Apprentice Salary vs Journeyman Salary?

AspectApprentice SalaryJourneyman Salary
Required CredentialsBasic training, apprenticeship programCompleted apprenticeship, certification
Work EnvironmentOn-the-job training, supervisedIndependent work, skilled tasks
Employer & Industry UsageEntry-level, training phaseSkilled worker, experienced professional

Apprentice salaries are typically lower as they are in training, earning while learning basic skills. Once they complete their apprenticeship and become journeymen, their salary increases significantly due to their proven skills and experience. The transition from apprentice to journeyman reflects a move from learning to skilled work, impacting salary levels accordingly.

Job Summary

At NetApp, we believe great ideas come from everywhere - and so do great people. We're looking for a Global Services Commodity Manager to help shape and optimize our worldwide logistics operations, including reverse and forward logistics, supplier partnerships, and cost strategy. If you're someone who thrives on solving complex problems, building meaningful relationships, and driving measurable impact, we want to hear from you.

This is a role where your work matters. You'll directly influence how NetApp delivers value to customers globally while advancing our sustainability goals and operational excellence.

Job Requirements
  • Lead strategy across global reverse and forward operations, including RMA repair, asset recovery, and sales programs
  • Manage and grow supplier relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for third-party partners and driving quarterly business reviews
  • Negotiate contracts, SLAs, and MSAs that deliver competitive value and align with NetApp's business objectives
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities by developing should-cost models, benchmarking pricing, and streamlining operational processes
  • Champion sustainability by analyzing return flow efficiency to reduce freight costs and CO2 emissions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, operations, and customer service teams to align on shared goals
  • Use data and emerging technologies - including AI-driven insights - to monitor performance, spot trends, and inform smart decisions
  • Ensure compliance with global regulations around waste management, recycling, and environmental standards
Education
  • A degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field is helpful - but equivalent experience is equally valued
  • Professional certifications such as APICS, CPSM, or similar are a plus, not a prerequisite
  • We welcome candidates who have built expertise through apprenticeships, self-study, military service, or career transitions

Compensation:

Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU's). We will provide detailed information about the specific benefits for your region during the recruitment process.
