The Opportunity
As a Principal Data Science/AI Product Manager, you will drive the development and execution of cutting-edge AI/ML product features that power Genentech's customer engagement strategies. Working across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG), you will translate user feedback and market trends into innovative, automated solutions that deliver hyper-personalized customer experiences and smarter business decision-making.
  • Drive the overarching AI/ML product vision and strategy across classical ML and Generative AI to support diverse business use cases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Data Science, IT, and Commercial Strategy, to build digital-forward roadmaps and manage a high-impact product backlog.
  • Develop comprehensive AI product roadmaps rooted in deep user research, market trends, and advanced analytics.
  • Synthesize real-world usage data, user feedback, and model performance metrics to continuously iterate and enhance AI capabilities.
  • Launch AI/ML-driven features powering next-best actions, intelligent automation, and personalized recommendations for enterprise scale.
  • Partner with senior technical and business leaders to build robust business cases for new AI investments, ensuring responsible AI governance.

Who you are
  • You have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study with 8+ years of combined experience across product management, data science, AI, or software development.
  • You possess hands-on experience with modern or classical AI/ML techniques (Deep Learning, NLP, GenAI) and proficiency in at least one language like Python, R, Scala, or SQL.
  • You have a proven track record of writing detailed Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and technical specs using Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
  • You have successfully managed the entire AI product lifecycle from ideation and enterprise strategy through to post-launch optimization and governance.
  • You have demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and align with senior executives.

Preferred
  • Advanced degree (M.S., MBA, or Ph.D.) with a specialization in AI, Data Science, or Product Management.
  • Previous experience navigating product management within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to mentor and coach cross-functional product teams through a practice-based apprenticeship model.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring, cloud architecture cost optimization, and citizen data science environments.

Location
  • This role is based in South San Francisco and offers a hybrid schedule working 3 day per week on campus
  • No relocation benefits are available for this posting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $XXX - $XXX. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
