Job description

About the Position

The VDC Assistant Design Manager plays an integral role in supporting the Preconstruction Virtual Design process under the supervision of a VDC Design Manager and/or Project Executive. This position is responsible for developing detailed coordination models, installation designs, shop drawings, and construction documentation utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies.

Position Details/Responsibilities

  • Support projects during preconstruction and design coordination phases under the supervision of a VDC Design Manager and/or Project Executive.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes, industry standards, installation methods, and Power Design best practices.

  • Develop and maintain BIM models utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and related software platforms.

  • Perform 2D and 3D modeling and coordination for assigned systems and project scopes.

  • Participate in clash detection and coordination meetings with project stakeholders, including project teams, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and trade partners.

  • Assist with the review of contract documents, BIM Execution Plans, scopes of work, specifications, drawings, and jurisdictional requirements to support code-compliant and cost-effective installations.

  • Develop coordination, fabrication, prefabrication, and installation drawings in accordance with project requirements and Power Design standards.

  • Coordinate directly with operations teams to support project execution, installation planning, and constructability reviews.

  • Assist in maintaining project schedules, deliverables, and production reporting requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external project stakeholders to resolve design conflicts and support project objectives.

  • Utilize BIM technologies and workflows to improve project coordination, efficiency, and quality.

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail and commitment to quality throughout all project deliverables.

  • Represent Power Design professionally in project meetings and coordination efforts.

  • Demonstrate and uphold Power Design's core values of Integrity, Accountability, Teamwork, Innovation, and Growth.

Here's What We're Looking For

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, industry certification, registered apprenticeship completion, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in construction, VDC, BIM modeling, detailing, or installation within Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing systems.

  • Proficiency with Revit and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other BIM technologies.

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.

  • Understanding of construction coordination, clash detection, and installation best practices.

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, customers, consultants, and trade partners.

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work with strong attention to detail.

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards within your area of expertise.

  • Experience supporting prefabrication, fabrication, field layout, or installation planning is a plus.
