POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for conducting American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR training courses.
JOB LOCATION: Various locations in the Des Moines Metro
HOURLY RATE: $19.00-$22.50/hour based on experience
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Weekday evenings and/or Weekends; number of hours varies based on class schedule and your availability. Minimum of four courses a year, with more hours available for candidates if wanting.
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: August 18th, 2026 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Prepare training site and materials for each course
  2. Conduct required training courses according to American Red Cross standards
  3. Follow process / procedures for submitting the completion records, course course evaluations, and participant evaluations after each course.
  4. Notify supervisor of any training supply needs and if issues with equipment.
  5. Follow all YMCA of Greater Des Moines' policies, procedures, operating standards, and emergency procedures.
  6. Attend team meetings, trainings, and events assigned by the supervisor or designated staff person.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  8. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. Perform basic computer skills such as using the computerized time clock and online training requirements.
  3. Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid r.25 or Lifeguard Instructor r.24
  4. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification - prior to starting
  5. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired
  6. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards
