Purpose of the Role

The Special Projects Engineer serves as a force multiplier across the manufacturing network, blending the analytical rigor of a Productivity Engineer with the judgment and influence of a seasoned operations leader. This role is accountable for leading complex, high-impact initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and capacity.

Core Responsibilities1. Strategic Problem Solving & Project Leadership

Lead complex, cross-functional projects with high ambiguity. Translate challenges into structured plans and measurable outcomes. Drive execution from concept through implementation and stabilize critical initiatives when required.

2. Manufacturing Excellence & Productivity

Drive asset utilization, throughput, and ROI improvements. Apply lean and industrial engineering methods such as flow optimization and line balancing. Scale improvements across multiple sites.

3. Stakeholder Leadership & Influence

Build alignment across plant leadership, engineering, supply chain, and executive stakeholders. Communicate complex topics clearly and influence without authority.

4. Change Leadership & Organizational Capability

Act as a change agent to challenge existing processes. Lead workshops and develop organizational capabilities through training, mentoring, and standardization.

5. Innovation & Skunkworks Execution

Prototype and validate new ideas and process improvements. Partner with engineering and automation teams to advance manufacturing capabilities and develop future opportunity pipelines.

Scope & Impact

Operates across a multi-site network with high visibility to senior leadership. Responsible for leading large, high-value projects and influencing both short-term performance and long-term strategy.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  •  7-12+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, or continuous improvement.
  • Proven success leading complex initiatives in multi-site environments.
Requirements
  • Part time position 25 hours per week; across all US and Canadian Doors plant locations.
  • Travel required 50-75%
  • Resident office position and preferred to live near a major airport
