Are you a highly motivated high school graduate ready to learn a valuable, hands-on trade? Join our team and begin your career as an Apprentice Sign Fabricator! You will be trained under general supervision to effectively and efficiently fabricate high-quality sheet metal signs. This is an incredible opportunity to gain certified skills and work towards becoming a fully certified technician, with a clear path into the YESCO apprenticeship program.

What You Will Learn and Do (Essential Duties):

  • Bring Designs to Life: Review plans and diagrams to translate precise specifications into accurately cut materials for sign parts.
  • Master Fabrication Equipment: Learn to operate and program advanced metal cutting and welding equipment to cut, weld, bend, and shape various materials.
  • Weld and Construct: Operate welding equipment to join sign parts and structures together.
  • Maximize Efficiency: Plan, prepare, and use materials efficiently to keep waste to a minimum.
  • Quality & Finish: Perform essential finishing work, including sanding, polishing, and cleaning cut materials, and applying paint touch-ups and detailing to signs.
  • Assembly Preparation: Prepare sign structures by laying out materials for skinning/covering, and performing pre-painting and wiring preparation tasks, including cleaning and labeling parts.
  • Safety First: Consistently implement and maintain quality control and safety procedures during material handling, cutting, and welding.
  • Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal department equipment.
  • Teamwork: Perform all duties required to ensure the department meets project expectations and deadlines.

Team Support (Marginal Duties):

  • Keep the shop area clean and free from debris to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist other sheet metal employees as needed.
  • Help monitor parts and materials inventory.
  • Move materials, cut parts, and finished projects around the facility.
  • Rack and pallet finished materials for shipping.

What We Look for In an Apprentice (Training & Qualifications):

  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Career Focus: Acceptance or immediate enrollment in the YESCO or other authorized apprenticeship program is highly desirable.
  • Foundational Skills: Demonstrated basic experience in power tool operation, or related hands-on areas, is a plus.
  • Certification Commitment: Must be willing to work towards obtaining a 3G Welding certificate.
  • Technical Literacy: The ability to read, interpret, and apply information from specifications, diagrams, and procedure manuals.
  • Math Skills: The ability to apply geometric, algebraic and fraction mathematical calculations for accurate cutting and fitting. Be able to read a tape measure.
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with team members and supervisors.

Physical Requirements:

The role is performed indoors in a generally loud work environment. Candidates must be able to regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and maintain balance. You must be able to occasionally move objects in excess of 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
