Job description

Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic II
Location: Clackamas, Oregon
Pay Rate: $34.97 – $36.97 per hour
Position Overview
Our client, a large production and facilities organization, is seeking a Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic for an onsite, 90-day contract engagement in Clackamas, Oregon. The role keeps production equipment running through preventive maintenance, rapid troubleshooting, and quality repair work.
This position suits a mechanic who is genuinely capable across mechanical systems and who takes ownership of uptime. It offers varied hands-on work in an established facility alongside an experienced maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
You will execute preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment according to the maintenance schedule, including inspection, lubrication, alignment, belt and chain adjustment, bearing replacement, and component wear assessment.
You will respond to equipment breakdowns, diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults efficiently, and complete repairs that restore the equipment to reliable operation rather than a short-term patch. Minimizing downtime while maintaining safe work practice is the core measure of the role.
You will perform fabrication and repair work as needed, including welding, cutting, and machining of replacement parts and guarding, and support equipment installation, relocation, and commissioning projects.
You will document all work accurately in the computerized maintenance management system, including labor, parts consumed, and failure detail, maintain parts inventory awareness and flag reorder needs, and follow lockout/tagout, confined space, and other safety procedures without exception.
You will contribute to reliability improvement by identifying recurring failure modes, recommending changes to preventive maintenance frequencies or procedures, and flagging equipment that warrants engineering attention. You will also support planned shutdown and changeover work, completing assigned tasks within the window so that production restarts on schedule.
Requirements
Prior industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience is required, with demonstrated competency in mechanical troubleshooting and repair on production equipment.
You must have practical working knowledge of mechanical drive systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics, along with the ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and parts diagrams.
Strict adherence to lockout/tagout and industrial safety procedures is mandatory. You must supply and use standard hand tools, be able to lift and carry heavy components, work at heights and in confined spaces as required, and be available onsite for the assigned shift including overtime or weekend coverage during breakdowns.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in food, beverage, or other regulated production environments is preferred, along with familiarity with GMP and sanitary equipment design considerations.
Welding and fabrication certification, electrical troubleshooting capability including motors, drives, and control circuits, PLC familiarity, and experience with CMMS platforms are all valued. Completion of a maintenance or millwright apprenticeship is advantageous.
Experience with predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, or oil analysis is valued. Familiarity with conveyors, packaging equipment, pumps, compressors, and refrigeration systems is advantageous, as is any exposure to reliability-centered maintenance or total productive maintenance programs.
Compensation and Benefits
This engagement pays an hourly rate in the range of $34.97 to $36.97, based on experience and demonstrated skill, across a 90-day contract with a defined end date.
You will work within an established maintenance organization with access to a broad range of equipment and systems, building experience that transfers directly across manufacturing sectors. The defined engagement supports planning, and extension or conversion may be available depending on performance and continued need.
This is a contract engagement placed through our recruiting team. We work closely with our contract professionals throughout the assignment, from onboarding and first-week check-ins through to end-of-contract planning, and we actively look for the next opportunity for people who deliver well. Many of our contract placements lead to extensions, repeat assignments, or permanent conversion.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application and interview process on request. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the engagement.
