Temporary Maternity Leave Cover: Special Education Teacher (Junior High)

Southmont Junior High School Employment Period: August 3, 2026 – October 15, 2026

Position Overview

Southmont Junior High School is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dedicated Special Education Teacher to cover a maternity leave for the opening weeks of the 2026–2027 school year.

The ideal candidate will be ready to establish a supportive, structured environment from day one, ensuring our students with diverse learning needs experience a seamless and successful transition into the new school year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support: Deliver modified lessons, specialized instruction, and accommodations tailored to student needs in inclusive, resourceful, or self-contained settings.
  • IEP Management: Review, implement, and maintain compliance for existing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Classroom Management: Foster a safe, positive, and predictable learning environment that accommodates various behavioral and academic needs.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure all student accommodations are met.
  • Progress Monitoring: Collect data, monitor student progress toward goals, and maintain clear communication with parents and school administration.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field required.
  • Licensure: Valid State Teaching License in Special Education (Mild/Moderate or Intense Intervention, depending on specific student needs) is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of IDEA regulations, experience with IEP implementation, excellent patience, and strong collaborative skills.
