Manual Engine Lathe Machinist Apprentice

Pay Rate: $20 - $25/hour

Schedule: 7AM to 4PM, Monday to Friday

Location: Houston, TX 77032

Summary

The Manual Lathe Machinist Apprentice will play a critical role in supporting the precision repair and manufacturing of Client Company’s pump components by developing technical expertise, maintaining strict quality standards, and contributing to operational excellence. This role is dedicated to learning and applying advanced machining practices, ensuring the reliable restoration and production of high-performance pump parts, and upholding a safe, efficient, and organized work environment. This is a full time, day shift position as a Machinist Apprentice in a climate-controlled shop

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform precision rework, repair, and refurbishment of metallic pump components in accordance with OEM specifications and internal quality standards.
  • Develop and expand machining proficiency through hands-on use of engine lathes, manual mills, and other conventional equipment specific to pump manufacturing and repair applications.
  • Attend vocational training and successfully complete certifications as manufacturing career progresses
  • Assist with the setup, alignment, and operation of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment as departmental capabilities evolve.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering documentation to accurately machine or restore components to required tolerances and specifications.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gages, profilometers, eight gages, dial indicators, and other metrology tools to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections by comparing measured results against engineering drawings, and document findings in accordance with quality control procedures.
  • Support quality assurance efforts by generating inspection reports, maintaining traceability records, and adhering to established documentation standards.
  • Support and train in other repair activities in shop floor to support on time delivery
  • Participate in routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting of machining equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all safety regulations, environmental policies, and 5S workplace organization principles to promote a safe, efficient, and clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with service technicians, engineers, and other shop personnel to improve processes, and enhance repair quality and turnaround times.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and skill development through training, mentorship, and on-the-job experience within the pump repair and manufacturing environment.
  • Consistently represent and uphold the Company’s core values, cultural behaviors, and commitment to excellence in all aspects of work.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Hands-on career in manufacturing
  • Metalworking machinery, preferably engine lathe and manual mill
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings

Education:

  • High School Degree
  • Machinist Technical School training (Preferred)

Skills

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word)

Language & Reasoning Ability:

  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, team, and organizational skills.

Other Skills:

  • Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 140001, and ISO 450001 standards.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to learn, teach, and encourage others to perform knowledge-sharing exercises
