Job description

HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice

Location: New London, CT
Pay: $18.00–$27.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time
Completion of a post-secondary vocational or technical program in Sheet Metal or HVAC

We are seeking an HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice in New London, CT. This position will assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal components and HVAC systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Previous experience is not required, and we are willing to train the right candidate. Completion of an approved sheet metal apprenticeship program or relevant vocational/technical training is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine the appropriate methods for fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials to develop and trace patterns for products or components.
  • Use templates and other layout tools to assist with sheet metal fabrication.
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers.
  • Cut, bend, block, form, and straighten sheet metal and other materials.
  • Assist with the fabrication and installation of HVAC ductwork and sheet metal components.
  • Work under the direction of experienced journeymen and supervisors.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors and crew members.
  • Work with other trades to coordinate work on active job sites.
  • Maintain all required trade licenses and certifications.
  • Attend required safety training.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Interact with customers and clients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the assigned journeyman or supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a post-secondary vocational or technical program in Sheet Metal, HVAC, or a related field preferred.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program preferred.
  • No prior experience required; we will train the right candidate.
  • Previous sheet metal or HVAC experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work safely on active job sites.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands and fingers to handle tools and materials; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear; and climb ladders and stairways.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move:

  • 0–50 lbs. frequently
  • 51–100 lbs. occasionally
  • 101+ lbs. seldom

The position requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
