Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals who are dependable, mechanically inclined, and committed to investing in their future with a respected manufacturing company. We are looking for apprentice for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.
Job Summary:
The apprenticeship program provides the ability to work towards completion of a State Certified Apprentice Program to become a Registered Journeyperson - Maintenance Mechanic. Requirements include formal education, paid for by American Trim, and a set amount of on-the-job training hours.
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, The Maintenance Apprentice will learn to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain the plant facility and production equipment safely and efficiently, so as to produce a quality product.
Job Responsibilities:
Some of the duties the Apprentice will learn/train to do include:
  • Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment including: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, cutting, and programmable computers.
  • Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment. Coordinates maintenance schedule with the Production Manager to minimize down time.
  • Inspect machines regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual and sound inspections.
  • Repair, install, adjust, and maintain machines or vehicles. Troubleshoots production issues: fix repair or replace as quickly as possible.
  • Install and may fabricate machine guards.
  • Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on the building, facilitates and grounds. Work may include plumbing, plastering, concrete work, lawn work, snow removal, etc.
  • Perform general custodial duties throughout facility.
  • Clean and maintain the boiler; any mechanical and plumbing needs.
  • Responsible for inside and outside sprinkler system.
  • Assist in the monitoring and works with outside contractors.
  • Perform safety checks and assist with maintaining procedure documentation.
  • Assist with installation and setup of new building equipment.
  • Keep inventory of supplies i.e. oil, pipe fittings, nuts and bolts, etc. Orders supplies as needed if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Comply with all safety standards: Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Equipment Safety Analysis (ESA) and Area Safety Analysis (ASA).
  • Ensure that job is run in environmental compliance after instructions from supervisor/environmental group.
  • Other job duties as assigned by supervisor or group leader.

Education, Skills and Experience:
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Commitment to completing our Registered Apprenticeship program which includes: four year training program at local community college or career center paid by American Trim, concurrent with 8,000 hours (four years) on-the-job training.
  • Strong interest in hands-on work and problem solving

License, Certification or Special Requirements:
  • Dependability and reliability - strong adherence to attendance policy
  • A high degree of precision and control in work
  • Proficient computer skills
  • High attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to learn Statistical Process Control; Linear Measuring; Problem Solving
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and other required documents
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritize competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work on all three shifts and cover call as scheduled. May travel to various American Trim operational sites.
  • Must be willing to learn and self-motivated

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Repeated lifting, packing of items (3 to 6 lbs.).
  • Requires some heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs. of a non-repetitive nature.
  • Work with sharp tools and sharp edges on parts.
  • Attention to detail in inspection.
  • Must work as part of a work team.
  • Requires standing, walking and/or moving about for time periods in excess of one (1) hour.
  • Requires some sort of repetitive turning and/or lifting motions to be performed.
  • Work overtime as needed
  • Work with pressure of meeting schedules, personnel issues, changing priorities.
  • Basic computer/PC knowledge/skills preferred.
  • Work with all levels of employees.
  • Perform position requirements while wearing eye, foot and/or other protective devices as required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn including but not limited to: eyes, ear, foot and/or other protective devices as required.
Other Information:
Pay will be based on experience, and increases will be based on hours completed in the program through the Apprenticeship top out pay. Increase will be issued upon completion.
