What is an apprentice full stack developer?

Apprentice Full Stack Developers are entry-level professionals who are learning to build both the front-end (user interface) and back-end (server, database) components of web applications. They typically work under the guidance of experienced developers, participating in real-world projects to gain practical skills in various programming languages, frameworks, and development tools. The apprenticeship period is designed to help them understand the full development cycle, from designing interfaces to deploying and maintaining applications. This role is ideal for individuals seeking hands-on experience while building a strong foundation in software development.

What types of projects can an apprentice full stack developer expect to work on, and how is mentorship typically structured in this role?

As an Apprentice Full Stack Developer, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that span both front-end and back-end development, such as creating web applications, building APIs, and optimizing existing codebases. Typically, you will be paired with a senior developer or a small team who will provide mentorship, conduct regular code reviews, and offer guidance on best practices. This collaborative structure is designed to help you gradually take on more responsibility and build confidence in a supportive environment. You'll also have opportunities to participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and team discussions to better understand the full software development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an apprentice full stack developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Apprentice Full Stack Developer, you need a foundational understanding of programming languages like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, alongside familiarity with both front-end and back-end development concepts. Experience with tools and frameworks such as React, Node.js, Git, and basic database systems, as well as participation in coding bootcamps or relevant certifications, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and a willingness to learn new technologies set exceptional candidates apart in this role. These skills enable effective collaboration, adaptability, and the ability to contribute to all layers of application development in a fast-changing tech environment.

What is the difference between Apprentice Full Stack Developer vs Junior Full Stack Developer?

Job description

Quantum Art is a full-stack quantum computing company developing advanced quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. We build the entire quantum computing stackโ€”from hardware and control systems to cloud infrastructure and user-facing applications.

We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our software team and help build reliable, scalable, and production-ready platforms. In this role, you will work across the quantum software stack, developing modern frontend and backend services while taking end-to-end ownershipโ€”from architecture and implementation to deployment and production operations.

You will collaborate closely with our theoretical physicists to transform cutting-edge algorithms and research code into robust, production-grade software that powers our quantum computing platform.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and modern web applications with intuitive user interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with the theoretical physics team to integrate research algorithms into production-quality software.
  • Build the infrastructure and software interfaces required to deliver physics-driven capabilities to customers.
  • Deploy, operate, and maintain production systems across AWS and on-premises environments.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Manage development, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests.
  • Implement observability solutions, including logging, monitoring, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and security.
  • Participate in system architecture, technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering planning.

Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • BSc degree in computer science or similar studies
  • Strong handsโ€‘on experience building modern frontend applications using frontend technologies such as React (or a similar framework).
  • Strong Python development skills with experience building productionโ€‘grade backend services and APIs.
  • Proven experience delivering software products or major features from design through production.
  • Experience designing scalable, highly available, and highโ€‘performance distributed systems.
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture, networking, application security, and identity/access management.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with cloud platforms, containers, and container orchestration.
  • Experience with Terraform or another Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) framework.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, metrics, dashboards, and observability solutions.
  • Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production operations.
  • Strong ownership, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, or Amazon EKS.
  • Experience integrating scientific, research, or algorithmic software into production environments.
  • Experience with message brokers or streaming platforms (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, Amazon SQS).
  • Experience working in a fastโ€‘paced startup environment.
  • Interest in quantum computing or other deep-technology domains.
General
  • We are located at the Science Park, by the Weizmann institute.
  • Full collaboration with the experimental & theoretical groups at the Weizmann Institute.
  • Only relevant candidates will be contacted.
