What is a full stack developer intern?

A Full Stack Developer Intern is a trainee who assists in building both the front-end (user interface) and back-end (server, database) components of web applications. Interns in this role work under the guidance of experienced developers to learn and contribute to the entire software development process. They often use programming languages like JavaScript, Python, or Java, and frameworks such as React, Node.js, or Django. The internship provides practical experience in coding, debugging, and deploying web applications, preparing interns for a full-time developer position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack developer intern?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer Intern, you need a strong grasp of front-end and back-end programming languages, such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and either Node.js, Python, or Java, along with a relevant academic background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, web frameworks (e.g., React, Express), and databases (SQL/NoSQL) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, eagerness to learn, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate with teams and adapt to new technologies. These competencies are crucial for contributing to real-world projects, quickly adapting to workplace demands, and laying the foundation for a successful development career.

What types of projects and technologies can a full stack developer intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Full Stack Developer Intern, you'll typically be involved in projects that span both front-end and back-end development, such as building web applications, developing new features, or troubleshooting existing systems. You may work with technologies like JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React or Angular) for the front end, and languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js for the back end. It's common to collaborate closely with other developers, designers, and sometimes product managers, gaining exposure to the full software development lifecycle. Interns often participate in code reviews, agile sprints, and team meetings, providing valuable hands-on experience and learning opportunities.

How to get an internship for a full stack developer?

To secure a full stack developer internship, candidates should build a strong portfolio demonstrating skills in front-end and back-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like React or Node.js. Gaining experience through personal projects, contributing to open-source, and obtaining relevant certifications can improve chances, along with applying through company career portals or internship programs and preparing for technical interviews. Having a solid understanding of version control systems like Git and good problem-solving skills are also beneficial.

Is a full stack developer intern still in demand?

Full stack developer internships remain in demand as companies seek candidates with skills in front-end and back-end technologies, including JavaScript, Python, and frameworks like React or Node.js. Internships provide valuable experience and can lead to full-time roles, especially as demand for versatile developers continues to grow in tech industries.

Job description

Quantum Art is a full-stack quantum computing company developing advanced quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. We build the entire quantum computing stack—from hardware and control systems to cloud infrastructure and user-facing applications.

We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our software team and help build reliable, scalable, and production-ready platforms. In this role, you will work across the quantum software stack, developing modern frontend and backend services while taking end-to-end ownership—from architecture and implementation to deployment and production operations.

You will collaborate closely with our theoretical physicists to transform cutting-edge algorithms and research code into robust, production-grade software that powers our quantum computing platform.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and modern web applications with intuitive user interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with the theoretical physics team to integrate research algorithms into production-quality software.
  • Build the infrastructure and software interfaces required to deliver physics-driven capabilities to customers.
  • Deploy, operate, and maintain production systems across AWS and on-premises environments.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Manage development, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests.
  • Implement observability solutions, including logging, monitoring, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and security.
  • Participate in system architecture, technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering planning.

Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • BSc degree in computer science or similar studies
  • Strong hands‑on experience building modern frontend applications using frontend technologies such as React (or a similar framework).
  • Strong Python development skills with experience building production‑grade backend services and APIs.
  • Proven experience delivering software products or major features from design through production.
  • Experience designing scalable, highly available, and high‑performance distributed systems.
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture, networking, application security, and identity/access management.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, containers, and container orchestration.
  • Experience with Terraform or another Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) framework.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, metrics, dashboards, and observability solutions.
  • Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production operations.
  • Strong ownership, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, or Amazon EKS.
  • Experience integrating scientific, research, or algorithmic software into production environments.
  • Experience with message brokers or streaming platforms (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, Amazon SQS).
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced startup environment.
  • Interest in quantum computing or other deep-technology domains.
General
  • We are located at the Science Park, by the Weizmann institute.
  • Full collaboration with the experimental & theoretical groups at the Weizmann Institute.
  • Only relevant candidates will be contacted.
