Position: Cell Technician
Role: Quality Inspector
Location: 330 Governors Highway, South Windsor, CT 06074

Overview

The Quality Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring that aerospace components manufactured within Electro-Methods’ Lean Flow Line meet the highest standards of precision, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Working as an integrated member of the production cell, the Quality Inspector performs dimensional and visual inspection activities throughout the manufacturing process to verify conformance with engineering specifications, GD&T requirements, and AS9100 quality system standards.

This role supports first-time quality, continuous flow manufacturing, and Lean problem solving by partnering closely with Cell Leaders, CNC Operators, Process Engineers, and Quality Engineering to identify issues early, prevent defects, and sustain production excellence.

Key ResponsibilitiesInspection & Verification

• Perform in-process and final dimensional inspections of aerospace components produced within the Lean Flow Line.
• Inspect parts using precision measurement equipment, including:
o Micrometers
o Calipers
o Height gauges
o Bore gauges
o Optical comparators
o Surface plate equipment
• Verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Ensure inspection activities align with AS9100 quality standards and internal inspection procedures.


Flow Line Quality Support

• Work directly within the manufacturing flow line, supporting real-time inspection needs across machining, EDM, welding, and finishing operations.
• Verify first-article and in-process inspections to support uninterrupted production flow.
• Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements when required.
• Escalate nonconformances promptly to the Cell Leader or Quality Engineering team.
• Operate other equipment in the cell as necessary to keep product flowing at takt.


Documentation & Traceability

• Accurately record inspection results within the company’s quality documentation and ERP systems.
• Maintain traceability records, inspection reports, and process documentation.
• Assist with documentation related to nonconforming material reports (NCMR) and corrective actions.


Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

• Participate in Tier 1 Lean Daily Management meetings, providing quality feedback on production performance.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to quality issues.
• Collaborate with operators and engineers to improve first-time yield and defect prevention.
• Promote a “quality at the source” mindset within the production team.


Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with:
o AS9100 Quality Management System
o Customer specifications
o Internal inspection procedures
• Maintain a safe and organized inspection area consistent with 5S workplace standards.


Required Qualifications & Skills

Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of experience in precision manufacturing inspection.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based Lean manufacturing environment.


Additional Information

Preferred
• Experience in aerospace manufacturing or regulated industries.
• Training or certification in GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience supporting First Article Inspection (AS9102).
• Experience with CMM inspection or metrology software.
• Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems.
