Job description

This position is responsible for performing specialized technical duties in the repair, maintenance, and installation of customer's fiber optic networks.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency repair calls regarding all aspects of our customers' OSP fiber optic network.
  • Performs construction, splicing, distribution changes of OSP and ISP fiber optic
  • Performs tests on OSP and ISP networks to troubleshoot problems
  • Makes necessary repairs on the OSP and ISP facilities once problem is found
  • Assures network is functioning properly before leaving customer
  • Assists in maintaining inventory and notifies appropriate personnel when materials need to be
  • Night shift work is required due to the nature maintenance
  • This position will be subject to call outs to meet service
  • Weekend and holiday work may be required as service demands
  • The work consists of related technical duties and is considered complex.
  • Fiber optic construction and splicing can be complex, and skills should be kept up to.
  • The purpose of this position is to perform specialized technical duties in the repair, maintenance, construction and splicing of our customers' fiber optics.

Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two
  • Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft office; Bluebeam; Microsoft Outlook; Google Earth
  • Osha 10 - (to be completed within 90 days of employment)

FOC Specific Requirements
  • Be able to exhibit competence in optical testing and troubleshooting using EXFO IOLM/OTDR/OLTS and interpret results.
  • Perform panel prep in all configurations to include ISP/OSP FOC loose tube and ribbon.
  • Understand how to re-enter existing industry standard FOC closures, identify hazards, mitigate hazards, and stow closure to standard to include Airtight test.
  • Perform OSP Closure prep in all configurations to include ISP/OSP FOC Loose tube and Ribbon.
  • Perform Mid-Sheath entry on all count cables to include loose tube and all ribbon configurations.
  • Exhibit competency in single and mass fusion splicing.
  • Be able to conduct accurate sheath audits for U/G and Aerial plant.
  • Be able to properly use live traffic identifier and interpret results.
  • Exhibit a strong ability to organize data and provide clear deliverables.
