Job description

Duties:

  • Assist journeyman electricians and follow instructions.
  • Prepare and maintain clean work areas.
  • Material handling including transportation and delivery.
  • Install, repair, and maintain various wiring systems equipment.
  • Use measuring equipment and hand tools to perform work.
  • Bend and run rigid conduit.
  • Ability to learn a large array of tools and diagnostic devices to service and installs electrical devices.
  • Perform installation and maintenance work as part of a team of skilled trade workers.
  • Follow safety codes and building regulations.
  • Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.

Skills and Educational Requirements:

  • Safety and security-the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, demonstrates safe and proficient use of all tools, hand and power, including all required PPE.
  • Oral communication-the individual speaks clearly and respectfully to coworkers and customers.
  • Planning/organizing-the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of one year of high school algebra with a grade of 'C' or better.  (Equivalent may be one term of College Algebra Math 60 and 65 or Math 70 with a grade of 'C' or better)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of acceptance into the program.
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a background check.
  • Must submit and pass pre-employment and random UA(s)

Length of Apprenticeship:

  • Approximately 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of "Class" related training are required for completion of apprenticeship.  (Four years)

Characteristics Requirements:

  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate personal initiative, motivation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a self-starter yet able to take orders as directed.
  • Willingness to travel to remote job sites for extended periods of time.
  • Must be flexible and possess the ability to rapidly transition from one task to another.
  • Friendly, positive, professional demeanor.
  • Desire to learn and constantly develop new knowledge and skills.
  • Must be available to work long shifts, weekends, emergencies, overtime and nights.

Environment:

Performs duties in a work environment that will be hot, cold, dirty, loud, hazardous and fast-paced.  Work requires frequent exposure to noise, chemicals, the elements, uneven surfaces and other hazardous situations.

Physical Demands:

Requires visual acuity, the ability to communicate in person and over the phone, and manual dexterity.  Must be physically capable of performing work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.  Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, climb, crawl, pull, lift and carry (up to 75 lbs.)

  • Pre-Apprenticeship: $16-$18 per hour, depending on experience

  • Upon Indenture into Apprenticeship: Wages follow the Electrician Apprenticeship Scale, with step increases based on hours worked and training progress
