As an apprentice, you work under the supervision of experienced technicians or engineers to learn how to monitor and optimize building performance. This role is a hands-on entry point into the field, helping you gain practical skills while working towards a professional qualification. Apprenticeships often include classroom learning alongside on-the-job training.

What types of projects and systems will I typically work on as an apprentice building management system technician?

As an Apprentice BMS technician, you’ll commonly assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining automated systems that control building services such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and security. Your daily tasks may include supporting senior technicians, troubleshooting system faults, and learning how to program and calibrate sensors and controllers. You'll often work on-site in commercial or industrial buildings and collaborate with electrical engineers, facility managers, and other tradespeople. This hands-on experience is key to understanding how integrated systems contribute to building efficiency and occupant comfort.

Job description

Overview
Susquehanna International Group is seeking a Software Engineer to join our newly formed Core OMS team. This team is building an electronic trading platform that powers order routing across global markets.
As an early member of the team, you'll help shape the architecture and technical direction of a critical platform responsible for routing client orders to exchanges around the world. You'll solve challenging distributed systems problems involving performance, scalability, reliability, and connectivity while collaborating closely with traders, operations, and engineers across our U.S., European, and Asian offices.
We're looking for exceptional engineers at every career stage. If you're excited by difficult technical challenges and building high-performance distributed systems, we'd love to talk to you.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and evolve the distributed systems that power electronic order routing across global exchanges and trading venues.
  • Develop resilient, high-performance connectivity to clients, brokers, exchanges, and internal trading systems.
  • Partner with colleagues across Susquehanna's U.S., Europe, and Asia offices to support global expansion and onboard new markets and trading relationships.
  • Collaborate with traders, operations, developers, and external partners to investigate complex production issues and continuously improve platform reliability and performance.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, engineering standards, and the long-term technical direction of the platform.
  • Continuously improve the scalability, observability, and operational excellence of the platform.

What we're looking for
We're looking for exceptional engineers who enjoy solving difficult systems problems. We hire for technical excellence, curiosity, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
This role is a great fit if you're either:
  • An outstanding early-career engineer with exceptional technical ability, deep proficiency in modern C++, and a passion for learning distributed systems.
  • An experienced engineer with hands-on experience designing and building high-performance, low-latency distributed systems, networking infrastructure, or other performance-critical software.

You'll be successful in this role if you have:
  • Deep proficiency in modern C++ and strong software engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and distributed systems concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to reason about complex software systems.
  • A passion for building scalable, reliable, high-performance software.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills-you enjoy working closely with engineers, traders, operations teams, and business stakeholders.

Experience with distributed systems, electronic trading systems, exchange connectivity, FIX protocol, or financial markets is a strong preference. We're looking for engineers who are self-starters and enjoy tackling complex technical challenges.
