Job description

Job Summary:

The A&P Apprentice is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of company aircraft, including Douglas MD-80s, Curtiss-Wright C-46s, Douglas DC-9, Douglas DC-6 and performing general hangar cleaning under the direct supervision of the assigned Mechanic or Repairman. The assigned A&P or Repairman will provide back-sign as proof of supervision, as per 14 CFR Part 43.3(d). A&P Apprentices are expected to accumulate substantial on-the-job (OJT) training hours or complete their own college coursework in order to test for an Airframe and/or Powerplant license. Payment for testing fees is available, subject to certain restrictions.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure that all assigned tasks are carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures outlined in the General Maintenance Manual. Stay updated by reviewing Maintenance Bulletins and Memos as they are released.
  2. Aid A&P Mechanics and Repairmen in the replacement, installation, maintenance, and repair of aircraft components.
  3. Utilize hand tools or power tools to adjust, connect/disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, panels, and other aircraft parts.
  4. Support coworkers by providing tools and supplies, maintaining cleanliness in work areas, and assisting with holding materials or tools.
  5. Take part in the assembly and disassembly of machinery, equipment, components, and parts.
  6. Carry out tasks such as cleaning and lubricating machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects using power tools and cleaning equipment.
  7. Position vehicles, machinery, equipment, physical structures, and other objects for assembly or installation using hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment.
  8. Assist with preheating, deicing, aircraft launch and recovery, servicing, fluids, snow removal, and hangar recovery.
  9. Maintain company-required qualifications and recurrent training.

  5. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
  6. Proficient in computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
