Description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Engineer Manager. This position will report to the Group Manager of Transmission Lines in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI's Power Business Unit. The ideal candidate's duties will consist of electric transmission line design, design reviews, QA/QC enforcement, technical guidance/training of staff, overall project management, client interaction, proposal preparation, scheduling, staffing, invoicing, budget control, and business development related to all aspects of electrical transmission design services. This position will be performed remotely but connected to a GAI office.

Competency

  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.
  • Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare specification packages, structural and fabrication drawings.
  • Perform design and analysis of transmission lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower.
  • Conduct foundation design and analysis.
  • Perform electrical clearance checks and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with client codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Develop a keen understanding of Owner objectives and maintain close client relationships.
  • Support Owner by managing RFIs, review submittals, and oversee design compliance.
  • Identify cost savings through schedule control, scope management, and change order oversight.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Implement effective engineering methods and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • May mentor junior engineers and assist with proposal development for new opportunities.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer and final reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.
  • Establish and refine engineering processes and standard operating procedures that enhance team performance, alignment, and delivery predictability.
  • Travel to project sites for meetings and stakeholder engagement as required.

Minimum Years of Experience

Education

B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

Project and Task Management

  • Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
