Application Technical Analyst information

What is an application technical analyst?

An Application Technical Analyst is a professional responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing software applications within an organization. They analyze technical issues, coordinate with users and developers, and ensure applications run smoothly and efficiently. Their role often includes troubleshooting, performing upgrades, and implementing new features or updates in collaboration with IT teams. Application Technical Analysts play a crucial part in bridging the gap between end-users and technical teams, ensuring that business applications meet operational needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an application technical analyst?

To thrive as an Application Technical Analyst, you need a strong understanding of software applications, troubleshooting, and systems analysis, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with database management systems, ticketing platforms (like ServiceNow or JIRA), and relevant certifications such as ITIL or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals is valuable. Analytical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you excel in diagnosing issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring optimal application performance, timely issue resolution, and alignment with business needs.

How does an application technical analyst typically collaborate with other departments to resolve software issues?

As an Application Technical Analyst, you will regularly work alongside teams such as software development, quality assurance, and business operations. When troubleshooting application issues, you’ll often act as a liaison—gathering detailed information from end-users, communicating with developers to identify root causes, and coordinating with IT support to implement solutions. This cross-departmental collaboration is key to ensuring that application problems are resolved swiftly and that system improvements align with business needs. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential for success in this aspect of the role.

Information Security Operations Center Analyst Internship

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is looking for Information Security Operations Center Analyst interns to work in the Church's 24/7 Information Security Operations Center (ISOC) to identify, analyze, and respond to cyber threats to Church networks, systems, and data across the globe.

If you are an energetic and dedicated individual who loves learning, and you're looking for an internship, keep reading!

About:

This internship position represents anexciting opportunity to work for one of the largest information technology centers in the Wasatch front. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

A Day in the Life:

This team is a highly technical security team tasked with defending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from cyber threats day and night.  Our team is one of many teams in the Information Security organization.  While other teams may focus on system administration, risk analysis, compliance, or penetration testing, our team solely focuses on analyzing threats, responding to incidents, and thwarting cyber adversaries to protect the Church.  A position on this team requires shift work and is a highly interactive team environment.

An average shift can range from a phishing attack against Church leaders to malware events on an employee's work computer. In every event we investigate, we perform technical analysis to answer the following questions:

1) is this event malicious?

2) what is the impact?

3) what do we need to do about it?

This technical analysis involves logs from networks, applications, security sensors, and endpoints. We use enterprise tools such as Splunk, Palo Alto, Cisco, Microsoft Cloud App Security, Sophos, and many others to aid our investigations.

Our interns work under supervision and with clear escalation paths. We also have a mature in-house training plan, so every intern knows from day 1 what items they will need to study and demonstrate proficiency with, all under a trainer's supervision. Our interns leave our program armed with robust experience in a global SOC, deeper understanding of technical security issues, and confidence in their analytic abilities. Our intern program is also a pipeline for recruitment into our team's full-time, benefitted contract positions.

We have found that this schedule is especially useful for students, who can often schedule around classes during the week.

The office is located in Riverton, UT.  Remote and hybrid options are available.
