Job description

SUMMARY

We are seeking an Application Engineer for a thriving mission-critical manufacturer located in the San Antonio, TX region. This Engineer is responsible for leading the front-end technical development and customer submittal process for custom diesel generator enclosure projects. This role works at the intersection of sales, engineering, and project execution, translating customer specifications, RFQs, and project requirements into complete technical submittal packages. The Application Engineer establishes the technical baseline for each project, ensuring designs are accurate, compliant, manufacturable, and aligned with company capabilities.

DESCRIPTION

  • Review customer RFQs, technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements for custom generator enclosure systems.
  • Develop comprehensive project submittal packages for customer and engineer-of-record approval.
  • Produce general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare compliance narratives addressing applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Develop preliminary bills of material (BOMs) and assist with major component selection.
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure solutions are accurate and manufacturable.
  • Clarify scope, assumptions, and exclusions to prevent downstream change orders and project delays.
  • Generate and revise submittal drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Manage revisions and responses throughout the submittal review and approval cycle.
  • Identify technical risks, specification conflicts, or design gaps and proactively drive resolution.
  • Support the transition from approved submittals into detailed design and production.
  • Maintain internal standards for documentation quality, drawing accuracy, and submittal consistency.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering preferred (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Experience in an Application Engineer, Sales Engineer, or Project Engineer role supporting custom-engineered equipment.
  • Strong ability to interpret customer specifications and translate them into technical documentation and submittal packages.
  • Working knowledge of generator systems, diesel engine auxiliaries, or power generation equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems, structural systems, or enclosure-based equipment; electrical knowledge required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a must have.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with customers, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working within manufacturing or fabrication environments preferred.
  • Experience with industrial equipment packaging, modular systems, enclosures, skids, or containerized systems is highly desirable.
